WTF!? You don't run in that situation. They aren't going to double up Revere and Rollins and Rollins has the bigger hole to hit through with Revere being held on 1st.

Rollins grounds out on next pitch. Score still 0-0, now bottom of the 5th.
They are playing very, very dumb. Did you see Howard botch the double play on Wednesday? Mets had a man on first. Lightly hit ball right down the first base line. Howard picks it cleanly and instead of just touching first base with his left foot and then throwing to second, he throws to second without tagging first, and giving Rollins no time to turn two.

Then there's a foul pop up to the first base side, about 30 feet short of where the ball girl sits. Utley beats Howard to it and Howard doesn't give way, throws his mitt up over Utley's face, and still drops the ball.

Howard has got to be the most lackadaisical, dumb sumbitch in the league.
I know the he is one of the dumbest hitters that I've ever seen, especially against lefties. It's amazing how many times he strikes out on the low and outside slider, it's as if he doesn't know that's it coming. :ohno:

I remember one at bat a few years ago where it was obvious that they other team was going to pitch around him (2 outs, runner in scoring position and 1st base open). Howard struck out on 6 pitches, I think they were all low and outside sliders, none were thrown for strikes

It's maddening. But, he's our first baseman.

And he puts up big numbers, so I will live with the bad at bats, but he would be that much more dangerous if he were a little smarter when he got to the plate.

It continues to blow my mind that he laid off those sliders his first two years in philly. After that, he got progressively worse at recognizing pitches. You would think it would happen the other way around. :?

You would think.

He needs to watch film of Barry Bonds. Bonds knew that he might only see one hittable pitch in an entire game. He was happy to wait for it and take walks in the mean time. It seems like Howard goes up to the plate expecting to see good pitches, even in situations where the other team is likely going to pitch around him.

With that tough loss today, we need Roy to come through tomorrow. If he's going to turn it around, the Marlins are a good start.

Doc regains his form and gets his 200th win. :notworthy:

Eight innings, five hits.

Laynce Nix with a big pinch hit HR in the top of the ninth was the difference.

And the Phils remain the only team to beat the Braves this year.

Yeah, it's been awhile. I do remember them losing game 6 of the '93 NLCS though, because I was there. :)

Huge win for Doc and the Phils today. Granted, the Marlins have no offense, but if they had hit Doc around things would be looking really bad. Instead, Doc gets a much needed good outing and there is hope that he can turn things around.

Bad offensive weekend against just a plain awful team. Whole different ballgame the next 7 days with the Reds & Cards. Hopefully Cliff Lee stays on a roll tonight.

Cliff did OK but the bullpen choked. And Aroldis Chapman made Howard look silly.

If the phils fall out of playoff contention, I would still like to see Cholly finish the season as a sign of respect. He helped the team win a WS, get to another, and have its best regular season record of all time. He should be able to finish his contract and ride off into the sunset for what he's done here in philly. :thumb:

Nice work by Aumont in the resumption of a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 9th after an overnight rain suspension.

He doesn't get a single Reds batter out. Single, Walk, Walk, Single, Ballgame.

Well the Reds just got the sweep. I agree that Cholly should finish the year. Then fire Amaro.

The only thing I'm holding out hope for is Chooch. Hopefully when he comes back, the staff will be better and the hitting improves.

Looking on the bright side, I purposely didn't buy the same Phillies tickets this year as in prior years (I would buy tix in the upper deck of left field from a guy with a Sunday season ticket plan) in the hope that I could get much better seats later in the year. There looks to be plenty of seats to choose from in the months ahead with play like this. I can definitely get my kids into foul ball territory, maybe even infield seats. I like. :thumb:

I talked to a coworker couple days ago who's a lifelong diehard Philly sports fan (Eagles, Phillies, Flyers...meh on the Sixers) and used to say after the WS in '08 that Philly was turning into a "baseball town", he doesn't believe that anymore.
