More than 350 people are the victim of knife assaults every day in England and Wales, the latest crime figures have revealed.
Last night a teenager in Lambeth, London, became the latest victim of the stabbing epidemic, dying in hospital after a frenzied attack.
Almost 130,000 attacks involved knives last year - equivalent to one every four minutes - according to the annual British Crime Survey.
This figure does not include the tens of thousands of assaults against under-16s. However, unlike the police records published yesterday, it does include crimes which are not reported to the authorities.
The police data revealed 22,000 serious knife assaults - including 231 attempted murders - were reported to the police last year.
There were also almost 14,000 reported robberies and more than 8,000 woundings.

It was probably a high capacity assault knife.

Thanks for posting this effective argument FOR gun control.
If this criminal had had weapons similar to what was used in Newton, then there would be scores dead, not a couple of serious injuries and a few flesh wounds.

Access to guns in the UK is limited, so some people use knives, and based on the numbers in this article, there don't seem to be a lot of fatalities. I'm not in favor of taking guns away from law abiding citizens, but the article you posted seems to make the case that knives are safer than guns.ASUG8 wrote:http://www.independencedeclaration.org/ ... an-knives/

Unless they thought twice because of the doubt as to whether or not the intended victim was able to defend themselves with a similar or better weapon, instead of simply being a helpless unarmed victim in a gun free zone.dbackjon wrote:Thanks for posting this effective argument FOR gun control.

If you come up with a way to disarm criminals without making criminals out of law abiding citizens, I'm all for it. But to date nobody has made that type of suggestion.

My point was that taking guns away doesn't make crazy, violent people go away. If an individual want to do harm to someone else, they'll use something pointy, choke them, use a bat, a rock....you get the picture. You can do more damage to more people more quickly with a gun, but the guy in the link below actually makes something of a statistical case of US gun injuries vs. UK knife injuries:BlueHen86 wrote:Access to guns in the UK is limited, so some people use knives, and based on the numbers in this article, there don't seem to be a lot of fatalities. Knives are probably safer than guns with regard to fatalities, but a person can do a lot of damage to someone else by taking implements from their kitchen, garage, etc. It's a slippery slope.

One of the most important aspects of hypermiling is minimal usage of brakes. Braking wastes kinetic energy.ASUG8 wrote:He's doing hypermiling wrong.93henfan wrote:

Re: Is Knife Control Next?
I disagree. It's not a fair comparison. With guns out of the picture, knives are likely the preferred weapon of choice in the UK. In the US you have a choice of using a gun or a knife. Also, it's much easier to get a knife than it is to get a gun (even in the US), so I would expect there to be a higher instance of knife crime. The article you linked was rigged, which is no surprise since the author clearly has an anti-gun control stance.ASUG8 wrote:My point was that taking guns away doesn't make crazy, violent people go away. I will say again, I'm not in favor of taking guns away from law abiding citizens, but trying to equate gun violence to other things (like knives or cars) is irrelevant and probably hurts the anti-gun control position. You aren't going to win an argument that knives are more dangerous than guns.
I also don't think it's a slippery slope. Sure all the things you mentioned can hurt people, but not nearly effectively as guns. I don't think there has been a mass murder using rocks since Thak and Trogg knocked off a clan of Neanderthals back when global warming ended the ice age.
Re: Is Knife Control Next?
You're either not hearing me or I'm not making my point very well. I acknowledge that guns are more dangerous than knives, rocks, shovels, etc. and I didn't point to that article as definitive proof that blades beat bullets - I don't even thing the author believed that. But you ban guns as the UK did and people go for the next best thing, to which the government then begins to legislate legality as below:BlueHen86 wrote:I disagree. It's not a fair comparison. What's next? Ban guns and knives (or impose restrictions that are too prohibitive) and that crazy someone picks some other way of committing a mass murder. Anthrax? Times Square car bombs? Subway bombings? IED's? The point is you simply can't legislate the problems and the crazies away - gun bans or prohibition may mitigate the problems to an extent, but where do you stop? That's the slippery slope.
Most of the crazies that do this sort of thing end up dead by their own hand or suicide by cop - the FBI manages to stop a lot of these but they'll slip through on occasion.

Crazy with knives (yesterday) is a much better proposition than crazy with guns (Newtown).

There was an astute politician on CNN today that stated, " We should worry more about the people then the weapon." Our government isn't really very good at root cause analysis, but rather putting a band-aid on a problem.Ibanez wrote:There was an astute politician on CNN today that stated, " We should worry more about the people then the weapon." He was advocating mental health initiatives.danefan wrote:
