No I just deal with morons who don't know how to read. Case in point, where did I say we only buy a team to compete? There needs to be a combination of home grown players and big time FAs. A $150M+ payroll also lets the phils keep their homegrown talent. Of course teams will not always win with high payrolls, like the mets, yankees, and red sox. But the money allows them to make fewer mistakes than teams like Tampa and Miami. You also have to spend wisely such as not sign Lackey or Arod to ridiculous contracts. Of course the phils are guilty of that too (Howard). But I think with contracts such as Utley, Chooch, Halladay, and M. Young coming off the books at the end of this year will create a lot of flexibility in setting the stage for the next young group to come in.I know. He tends to dig himself into a hole and then try and get out of it by digging some more.

I highly doubt that $150 mil payrolls will be the new norm for the Phillies.Seahawks08 wrote:No I just deal with morons who don't know how to read. Did you mean to say more mistakes? Because that I agree with. A higher payroll doesn't guarantee anything, but it does make it easier to correct mistakes.Seahawks08 wrote:No I just deal with morons who don't know how to read. It was a day game, if the Phils looked good last night it was because the beat-down was over by then.AZGrizFan wrote:Phils looked good last night.

Let's see. Phils have a World Series championship 5 years ago. Diamondbacks 12 years ago. Sounds like we have been failing a bit less. But congrats on being two games ahead in the standings.AZGrizFan wrote:actually, yes they do.93henfan wrote:

Hint. But what good would it do to rub the Phillies failures in in THAT thread?
Like our friend Seahawks said, we have a $150M payrol, so we'll be good every year. Suck on that.

Yep. Your owners paid $150 million dollars last year for THE EXACT SAME RECORD as the Diamondbacks. They're regular Einsteins.93henfan wrote:Let's see. Edit: Correction, Phillies payroll last year was $174 million. Exactly $100 million more than Arizonas.

And the Phils ownership still made a killing. That's what happens when you have the highest attendance in MLB I guess.AZGrizFan wrote:Yep. Your owners paid $150 million dollars last year for THE EXACT SAME RECORD as the Diamondbacks. They're regular Einsteins.93henfan wrote:

So that's how we're measuring success now? How fat the owners wallets get? Then the yankees ownership are geniuses.93henfan wrote:And the Phils ownership still made a killing. That's what happens when you have the highest attendance in MLB I guess.AZGrizFan wrote:

Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA -- Pinch-hitter Kevin Frandsen hit a bases-clearing, three-run double with two outs in the ninth off closer Greg Holland to lift the Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday ....
Phils had just three hits on the night.

The Phils loaded the bases on three walks with nobody out. Brown and Mayberry couldn't move the runners and Frandsen bailed them out.93henfan wrote:Associated Press

Phils got a fairly good start from Lannen, 7 IP and 3 runs.

And how many since they started spending like drunken sailors? The same number as the Diamonbacks, Marlins, Phillies and White Sox and fewer than the Cardinals, Giants or Red Sox. yep. Brilliant.

Two thoughts -
Cole Hamels has sucked the life out of this baseball season in a mere six days, and..
Why is Chad Durbin pitching for us? Go to NASCAR and your true calling as a gasman. He's poured more gas on fires as a relief pitcher, it'd be a natural for him.

But Cole said he's really happy with all his pitches right now and he thinks he's throwing really well. Apparently opposing batters are also really happy with all his pitches too.bluehenbillk wrote:Two thoughts -
