WEST GLACIER – Automatic federal budget cuts will not delay the opening of Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road, but campgrounds and visitor centers will close earlier in the season, trails will receive less maintenance and some full-time positions will not be filled, park administrators announced Tuesday.
With the permanent federal spending cuts looming on the fiscal horizon last month, park officials proposed delaying the opening of the iconic Sun Road by two weeks in order to save costs. However, last-minute funding from the Glacier National Park Conservancy will allow the plow crews to run on schedule.
Going-to-the-Sun road may not open this year

If it matters that much to you, show up with a shovel and dig your way through.
It shouldnt cost me money so you can drive up a highway in my state. Stay in Delaware or wherever you ECPs hang out.

What about the economic benefit it brings to the communities adjacent to the National Park?

Yeah. There will likely be colateral damage. It sucks. We can no longer afford you because we can't use all of you. Churches need tax exemptions and there is nothing spiritual about the outdoors.
And don't give me that crap about celebrating God in his church. We all know god exists in some outdated and creepy gothic structure.

I'm all for churches losing thier tax exempt status, especially when they rake in millions and billions of dollars in profits.kalm wrote:Dear National Heritage,CAA Flagship wrote: Yeah. There will likely be colateral damage. It sucks. But at what point do you stop paying for what you can't afford?

Calling it waste is inaccurate. I would consider it discretionary spending. When you lose your job or get into financial trouble, you need to reduce your discretionary spending (restaurants, movie theaters, etc.). The federal government is in a similar situation and they also need to reduce their discretionary spending.kalm wrote:Dear National Heritage,CAA Flagship wrote: Yeah. And we won't lose the park, it just won't be as available as it had been in the past. It doesn't mean that it will always be like that.
This notion that once the government starts doing something or providing a service, it shouldn't stop is just ludicrous. We need a nimbler, more flexible and focused government.

Here is how the EC(b) is handling a similar situation.
"The Smithsonian said it would have to trim its budget by $40 million, but the institution claims it can do so by scaling back on maintenance and new construction, as well as with a hiring freeze, the AP said."

My wife and I were driving past a Catholic church last Saturday evening when people were leaving and traffic was all snarled up. She commented that they should have police directing traffic. I responded that I agreed as long as the church reimbursed the village for providing the service. Tax dollars should not be used to benefit a religious institution with a tax exemption.
