Charleston Southern 2013 schedule

Charleston Southern released it's 2013 schedule, which is a fairly tough one by CSU/Big South standards, despite not playing a 1-A team for the first time in many years:

- Shorter (D2)
- @Campbell (non- FB Big South)
- @Norfolk State (MEAC)
- @The Citadel (SoCon)
- North Greenville (D2)
- @ Appalachian State (SoCon)
- @ VMI (BSC)
- UNC-Charlotte (Independent)
- @ Presbyterian (BSC)
- Coastal Carolina (BSC)
- @Gardner Webb (BSC)
- Liberty (BSC Championship Game  haha I hope!!)

Good slate of games for CSU. Im kinda glad they took a year off from the 1-A/FBS teams. The two Division 2 games should be solid wins. UNC-Charlotte is a future FBS team, but maybe we'll catch them in this 1st year and have a nice feather in our hat with an on-paper win over a Big East or CUSA team in 2020 haha! Campbell is a non-football member of the Big South, and their FB team is young and growing. Should be a win.

The Citadel and App State will be two very tough SoCon games. We beat The Citadel once, and were tied with them at the half in 2012. CSU will need a near perfect game to beat them. Same for App. Probably 2 losses.

As for the conference....no more Stoney Brook. So, I suppose as usual Liberty and Coastal will be the teams to beat. We host Coastal and Liberty....but anyone who has played @ CSU knows our home field advantage isn't much of one unless it is in September in the smothering Charleston heat/humidity. BUT, in 2005, we beat both Liberty and Coastal @ home to win the Big South, so who knows. PC, VMI, Gardner Webb will all be very tough, close games that CSU could win or lose, a toss up.

Wishful thinking: CSU gets hot, upsets Citadel, beats UNC-Charlotte, loses to App, and runs the table into a 9-1 record and a showdown with Liberty for the playoff berth. :thumb:  :D :o
Probable thinking: CSU loses to Citadel, App, Liberty, Coastal. Toss up vs UNC Charlotte and Gardner Webb. Wins the rest to finish with a winning record at 6-5. Not too bad for CSU standards.
Disaster: CSU stumbles out of the game, loses to Shorter who they only beat by 3 last year, get blasted by App and Citadel, UNC Charlotte explodes with 1-A caliber players already on campus, Gardner Webb returns to their 2002 championship form, Liberty and Coastal are their usual juggernaut selves, and CSU limps out of the season with 2 wins over Cambpell and North Greenville. :ohno:

Not buying this for a minute 90. Charlotte is a first year program with few scholly players. Coastal is losing most of its offense and we have some guys that red shirted last year that will make a huge difference in the play of the defense this season. Won't be 9-1 but it sure won't be 6-5 either.

I totally agree with BucDad. Coach Mills left this program in very good standing, and I believe Coach Chadwell is going to take the lead and run with it. There is some talent in the program that didn't see the field last year due to red-shirting that will make solid contributions this year. The red-shirting was to have a long term, big picture perspective of the future. I also believe that Coach Chadwell's passion and intensity will be a force that will be infectious early in the season that will get the team up to speed and ready to compete right from the beginning.

Yeah, I think you guys will have a good season. There is no telling how Charlotte will perform, but being thier first season you really can't say one way or another. Look at CCU's first season against teams that had already been playing. The CCU game is usually a good matchup where you really can't say that CCU will go in a spank the Bucs. So i'm looking forward to that. Liberty..well..I hope you guys hurt them. :thumb: Your SOCON games will be losses, sorry. I just don't see you fellas beating The Citadel.

I hope you guys are right!!! Im a loyal Bucs fan, and I'd love nothing more than for them to go 11-0 and win the BSC!!

Someone made a good point about Coastal/UNC Charlotte. Coastal's 1st year they beat CSU, and had a winning season, really caught a lot of people by surprise. UNC Charlotte is a future FBS team and will kinda follow the same format Univ of South Florida did. They'll have a handful of big time players already, but that one could go either way. Liberty will be very tough, as will Coastal and GWU.

The SoCon games we will be underdogs. We were tied at half with The Citadel, and have beaten them before, so if we play great, limit turnovers and get a few good bounces, it could happen. @ App St will be tough, but who knows, we could pull a stunner.

I'd like more than 6 wins for sure. 11 is dreaming. I'd be very happy with an 8 win season, and think Chadwell will do a great job there!

11-0? You will be lucky to 7-4.
