Wow blackfalkin...alright go ahead and rag on my team even though i am positive that SUU would have beaten Idaho State, UNC, PSU and even EWU in 08. I blame these past rough couple of years on the lack of a good head coach but now we got one and we got immidiate positive results. and let me just say this...at least we know how to coach legally and we can get to the playoffs this year!!!BlackFalkin wrote:Why the hell does EVERYBODY want a sorry ass team like Southern Utah in the Sky? we already have southern Utah in the form of Idaho State.
Southern Utah=incompatible
they suck!
their stadium sucks
they're a low budget team
it would comprimise the quality of the league.

cal poly= good fit
good team-
good stadium
good location
good quality
maybe even uc davis but it you take 1 u probably take both.

I know this is an old thread at this point.
I just wanted to add some details about UVU. UVU added bachelors degrees in 1991 and changing their name from Utah Valley Community College to Utah Valley State College in 1993. They continued to compete in the NJCAA until 2002. The school attempted to join the NCAA in Division II in 2001, but Simon Fraser in Canada applied for membership and the NCAA imposed a moratorium on new Division II members to sort out the issue of Canadian teams, originally deciding no and then recently reversing that decision. That left UVSC with waiting for the moratorium to end or making the jump to NCAA Division I starting the transition in 2002. When UVSC began the transition in 2002, there were 7000 upper division students enrolled in the school, with 35 different majors. The NJCAA was about to throw them out, because they didn't fit the profile of a community college anymore.
The school has now essentially completed seven years of 4-year play and the long transition should be over this summer. That has been a long wait.
Last summer, the state legislature changed them from a state college to a university, now that master's degrees are offered.

UVU had the seven year transition since they were coming from the Junior college ranks - that is a long time!

Yes, a long transition. It is amazing they could get athletes who knew they would never play in the post-season. That said, in men's basketball, they had a winning season in all seven of those years with 24 wins in one year.
7 years would have been applied to any non-NCAA school transitioning to NCAA Division I (e.g., NAIA or schools adding athletics as they transitioned).
