I don't misunderstand what you are saying, but whether or not you need a scrip to go get your estrogen pills is small sauce compared to the freedoms we enjoy here (albeit trying to get rid of them.... see HR 347).

I think you do. You think that everything about America is great.
No, I don't, and you cannot infer that from what I said.

In the balance, ill take us with our flaws. I don't have a problem with getting rid of narcotics laws, or making people have a prescription to get their drugs. I just don't care, because those are not what I consider essential freedoms. They have nice highways in Germany. That's great. I still would not want to live there, because I could be jailed for saying things that I can say on this very forum if I want to.

In that respect, I'll deal with the little inconveniences. If someone wants to innovate and change them, wonderful. If not, well, it's still a hell of a lot better here even WITH our backwards ways.

And I wasn't talking about essential freedoms. I was talking about seeing something that WORKS in another country and not discouting them because they aren't like us (as so many on here like to do). We probably couldn't do what Estonia has done, but the concept isn't without merit and could possible work on a state level. :twocents:

I've been to Estonia. I'll stick with the good ole USA. It doesn't mean that other places don't get things right, it means we get the most things right.

BTW, how do you propose generating all that new electricity, flood most of best farmland for hydro-electric, cover millions of acres with wind farms or solar panels, build hundreds of nuclear plants, or burn more fossil fuels?

I can agree to that. But there are way to many people that think America is #1 in everything and that anything that "socialist Europe" does is evil and wouldn't work here, even if modified. America is a great country, but we're too arrogant in our thinking that we have the best ways. For example, we try to install/influence Democracy in countries where it just won't work...i.e. Iraq.

he installation of 165 fast chargers began in summer 2012 to service 650 all-electric vehicles currently listed in the country’s traffic register. EV users can charge batteries to 90 percent in less than 30 minutes.
Think about it guys. Think about being on a trip and stopping for gas then hitting the road again. Do you want a vehicle that takes 30 minutes to "refuel?' And the vehicle you're talking about is going to have a range of something like 100 to 200 miles per charge (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/evtech.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

It may be OK for some people. But not, I think, for most. Right now all electric vehicles are just not a good practical alternative regardless of how many quick charging stations somebody puts in.

Again, how would you feel if you had to sit at a gas station for 30 minutes while a trickling gas pump refilled your gas tank to 90% capacity? And while you know that you're only going to get 100 to 200 miles before you have to do it again. Sorry folks. There are going to have to be some advances in the technology associated with all electric cars before they become something most people will want.

Sure it would work. We just need to eliminate the natives and replace them with colonists.

I read about 6.93 percent of that article and I didn't see anything about burning lots of oil. Oil makes my day so much better. :thumb:

Interesting read. It touches on the need for storage which is key to renewables. This link within the story was also interesting.

http://reneweconomy.com.au/2013/renewab ... alia-62268

A couple of things to keep in mind as you read these articles -

-These articles are about Europe and Austrailia. Average electric price in Austrailia is 22-46 cents per kwh. Germany is 31 cents, Denmark is 40, France is 19, Belgium is 29. The us is 8 to 17. Right now small, local wind and solar installations are easily competitive in those countries because of the high rates.
-Comparing the cost of energy for wind and fossil fuel is not comparing apples to apples. Fossil fuel plants are guaranteed to provide energy 24/7. Renewables, without storage, cannot. So without storage you need to add the cost of a gas plant to the renewable cost to get a true cost. Unless you want to sit in the dark at times.

Solve the storage problem and you can become very, very rich.
