CONWAY, SC - Coastal Carolina University officials confirmed early Wednesday morning that Anthony Darnell Lidell, 19, a sophomore student from Bennettsville, died Tuesday as a result of a shooting that took place at University Place residence hall.

CCU Department of Public Safety Police Chief David Roper has determined that currently there is no apparent threat to students, faculty or staff. Therefore, classes will be held on Wednesday as regularly scheduled.

The first reports of a shooting appeared on social media around 7:30 pm. Martha Hunn, director of news and public affairs for the school said the shooting happened at 7:22.

We never had these issues during my time. The worst events were drg busts. Now, University Place is Off=Campus housing. CCU started buying and building these after the football program took off and the school was really booming. There were about 2 or 3 of these buildings during my time but there was never any violence, at least none that I recall.
