Honestly, the more I read about the sequester the more I'm OK with it. Sure, there are going to have to be some DOD furloughs..

Easily said when you won't be taking the 20% pay cut that Col Hogan and I will be taking for 22 weeks (at least) if no agreement is reached.

This is not some hypothetical scenario. It will start on April 1 with no Congressional agreement. The services have already published their plans. Imagine taking a 20% pay cut for 22 weeks. We've already been under a pay freeze for three years.

My FIL, who works in the private sector, received a mandatory 15% pay decrease for an indefinite amount of time. It does suck.

Three years ago we froze merit raises, RIF'd a lot of people, quit matching our 401k's, and increased our medical contributions. That's also, in effect, a pay cut. This has happened in almost all sectors, industries, etc. We've just not got back merit raises and 401k match, the increase in medical contributions has remained.

It would be nice to avoid the sequester, but not if Congress isn't serious about curtailing spending and reducing the debt.

They aren't serious. They've had over a year to research and debate. They have dropped the ball. What sucks is that people will continue to re-elect these cowardly, partsian children.

My company has given lower raises and ended a 35 year old practice of contributing 10% of each employees pay to thier 401(k). Starting next year they will match up to 6%. That was 10% FREE every year. I only wish I had been with them longer, it's been nice putting 10% into my 401(k) and having them give me another 10%.

DHS is going to have less lines both for TSA as well as customs, making for longer waits at the airport on both ends, but they won't cut grants to local law enforcement agencies for toys they neither use nor need.

Believe me, the petulant children in this government are going to make things as painful as they possibly can for solely political reasons. Part of this is because the real disaster would be if Americans realize that the sequester wasnt that bad after all.
