NYT fakes Tesla Model S results.

Data released by Tesla Motors late Wednesday night directly contradicts a damning review of the automaker’s Model S sedan by The New York Times.

The Tesla data, pulled directly from the electric sedan’s on-board computer, claims that New York Times reporter John M. Broder never completely ran out of energy during his extended drive of the Model S, despite his account to the contrary.

Actually it is very doubtful that it is faked. If the guy from the NYT did anything wrong, it was turning off the car when it was near the end of the battery life.

He purposely didn't fully charge the car when he had opportunities to do so, then bitches because it allegedly runs out of power? He's a fuckin' hack and he knows it. He (like 95% of journalists today) went into the story with a preconceived notion and agenda, and was hell-bent on writing the story HIS way, regardless of the actual facts.

It is true, though, to say that he didn't plug the thing in overnight and then complain about it running out of power is a bit silly on his part. I mean, should I complain that my smart phone's battery dies when I don't plug it in?

He took off on a 60 mile journey with 38 miles on his range gauge and against the advice of a Tesla person on the scene. Even ALPACAJIZZ1 isn't that stupid; he was either paid to do a hatchet job by competitors or he is trying to get a gig with FOX. In either case the data speaks for itself and Broder is a joke.

The powers that be HATE electric cars- because they're about to shoot gas up to $6.00 a gallon, or higher, and they want all the suckers bending over and paying their ransom.

Meanwhile.. cars have driven on water since the early 90's.

Electric cars have been more than viable (but bought and shut down by oil companies) since the late 90's

The vilification of the Tesla models is proof that they are not done trying to get rid of electric cars.. they have way too much to lose, and Americans have too much freedom to gain.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

For his first recharge, he charged the car to 90%. During the second Supercharge, despite almost running out of energy on the prior leg, he deliberately stopped charging at 72%. On the third leg, where he claimed the car ran out of energy, he stopped charging at 28%. Despite narrowly making each leg, he charged less and less each time. Why would anyone do that?

The above helps explain a unique peculiarity at the end of the second leg of Broder’s trip. When he first reached our Milford, Connecticut Supercharger, having driven the car hard and after taking an unplanned detour through downtown Manhattan to give his brother a ride, the display said "0 miles remaining." Instead of plugging in the car, he drove in circles for over half a mile in a tiny, 100-space parking lot. When the Model S valiantly refused to die, he eventually plugged it in. On the later legs, it is clear Broder was determined not to be foiled again.

I saw 2 Teslas Model S today and these cars are incredible. One was the 85 kWh model and the other was the Performance 85 kWhAside from the "space age" disappearing handles, the car is pleasing to the eye.

Such a beautiful, comfortable interior. 17" touch screen.

The owners ( this was at an Earth Day Festival, by the way) were very knowledgable. The car gets an est. 300 miles, 0-60 in about 5 seconds, a smooth ride and needless to say, a bit more quiet. It costs about $1 to charge.

They start at $67,000 but being the way technology is, I can see this price dropping while the est. miles increases.

At the page linked at the top of this post there is also a link to an article by someone rebutting Tesla's rebutal. It takes you to http://www.wired.com/autopia/2013/02/te ... mes-holes/;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; where you can find the following language:
To begin with, there’s one massive chunk of the data missing from the puzzle: GPS. According to a Tesla spokeswoman, the automaker didn’t have GPS data turned on in the car, which makes Tesla’s claims that Broder drove around in circle in a Supercharger parking lot dubious, at best.

Tesla also claims that the State of Charge indicator never reached zero. But Elon Musk didn’t need to delve deep into the car’s logs to determine that. The Model S is incapable of reaching a zero charge. The controllers connected to the lithium-ion battery packs won’t let the charge be completely depleted as that would “brick” the battery, rendering it useless. There always has to be some kind of energy stored in the packs to avoid damaging the battery.

That makes the small residual charge in the battery a meaningless technicality, not a smoking gun. Broder, seeing an ominous “car is shutting down” indicator on the instrument panel, assumed he was completely out of juice and did what any thinking individual would do: He pulled off the road, stopped and shut the vehicle down. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough charge in the high-voltage pack to continue powering the 12-volt accessories, which includes the parking brake, meaning the Model S was immobile and unable to be driven onto the flatbed.
And it goes on to rebut more Tesla claims such as the one that Broder didn't completely charge the battery.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Despite the critics, Tesla's Model S has been doing really well:
...In the first quarter of this year, more people bought a Tesla Model S than bought any of the similarly priced gasoline-powered cars from the top three German luxury brands, according to data from LMC Automotive...

...On Wednesday, Tesla announced a profit that exceeded Wall Street estimates. It also raised its Model S sales estimates for this year from 20,000 to 21,000.

Then on Thursday Consumer Reports came out and called the Model S the best car that it had ever tested. (Its overall performance was "off the charts," according to the magazine's head of auto testing, but it only earned 99 out of a possible 100 points because it can't be driven extremely long distances without recharging.)...

Honestly, I don't really take CR too seriously, but I'm happy that the public is seeing Tesla as a legitimate alternative. It's not often you see a new car company actually make it, but it looks like Tesla is slowly on its way (and they're American!). Who knows, in a few years we could have the big 4.
