Shut up with your filthy army talk and acronyms. They don't have to specialize in the Navy because naval officers are smart and breathe through their noses.

Re: Cop killer with a mission
Google doesn't turn up a specific MOS (if that's what the Navy calls it; the Marine Corps does use the term MOS). Dorner commanded a reserve security detatchment, so I'm assuming he was the equivalent of a military police MOS in the Marine Corps or Army.mrklean wrote:What was his MOS in the Navy. The body count would indicate that he was at least smarter than LAPD.houndawg wrote:Not this one.CID1990 wrote:

I mean, he was holed up for days just steps from their command post.

The first two were, anyway. PD rules of engagement? I don't think so, they were shooting any truck that vaguely resembled Dorner's. Of course, that may be the LAPD's rules of engagement....CID1990 wrote:Initiative, ambush, police rules of engagement. No he isn't bulletproof but there comes a point at which it becomes pretty evident that for whatever reason he could handle himself pretty well. I mean, the last time I heard Furman saying that stuff he had just had a gun battle with two deputies and an unknown number of wildlife agents (presumably at least two), gotten through it, and knocked two officers down including killing one. I understand what Furman was saying about the formal training he had but sometimes formal training isn't the whole story (I'm talking about in a general sense; in any area of expertise). I mean, what is the point of basically saying, "he's not all that" in terms of threat level when he just took on at least four law enforcement officers in a gun battle and came out on the better end of it?

I was responding specifically to the assertion that Dorner's training somehow gave him a leg up in this matter. In that respect, the ROE do affect how much of a drop an assailant can get on unsuspecting police.houndawg wrote:The first two were, anyway. PD rules of engagement? The cabin he fled to after crashing the truck he stole was, but he was holed up in a different cabin whose two female occupants he had tied up. I don't know where that one was located.93henfan wrote:The body count would indicate that he was at least smarter than LAPD.houndawg wrote:

In other news: I wonder now if Dorner's survivors are going to sue LAPD (or whatever Department gave the order) for burning the cabin? I'm guessing it's not SOP, like anywhere in the entire USA, to surround a suspect and then set the building they're in on fire.
This whole deal is only going to be a treasure trove for the expandos types. It's Waco all over again.

I wasn't talking about his formal training necessarily giving him any kind of an edge. All I'm saying is that he was dangerous and was a serious threat to police officers who confronted him. As in any situation, I think, formal training is not the whole story. It is a factor. A big factor. But not the whole thing.

Think about it. That is almost never the cop, unless it is in an ongoing incident where the police are already alerted.houndawg wrote:The whole thing is who gets the drop.JohnStOnge wrote:I wasn't talking about his formal training necessarily giving him any kind of an edge. I agree. I was pointing out to John that this is of the "ongoing incident" type.CID1990 wrote:Think about it. That is almost never the cop, unless it is in an ongoing incident where the police are already alerted.houndawg wrote:

The more I look at this case, the more it stinks. The LAPD put out a Million Dollar bounty on this mans head....WHY??? Secondly, They burned the cabin while a person was still in it. The LAPD did not want this man alive, and they sure as hell did not him to go to trial. I wonder why?? Good ole LAPD........

So far all the coroner has been able to tell about the body is that it appears to be black.
