Do you really understand anything about how government works?

Most laws aren't even addressed in Congress. The unelected, nameless, faceless bureaucrats in the countless departments, agencies, bureaus, etc. simply make rules that carry the same weight as law.
I think we all understand how government works. That's why it needs to be destroyed.

Yes, and it can be replaced by the amazing guidance and morality of rational self interest. Self interest will pave our streets, inspect our food and drugs for contamination, sign our treaties! Re: How Congress Works
I don't get that last point. Are you implying that we, as voters, really don't have a right to pick the government we want? That amateur legislature is supposed to be what runs the country, or at least that branch of the government. You seem to imply that the bureaucracy is the government and the legislature is just window dressing. I don't think any rational person would disagree that there is and needs to be a pretty substantial bureaucracy of government in order for everything to function, but where you seem to differ from most people is that most people think the legislature should drive the bus as it relates to that branch of government and should make the decisions of how it is done. We have elections for a reason, and it shouldn't be to placate the masses while the unelected parts of government make the decisions.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:The process doesn't work like it does in Schoolhouse Rock. Here in reality there are 435 Congressmen and 100 Senators and no end of citizens (whether organized in groups or individuals) petitioning their government. Thousands and thousands of reports are written, thousands more briefs, and hundreds and hundreds of bills proposed. That's the way it works running a global superpower in the 21st century... you don't get to have an amateur legislature passing laws like we're some condo association that can have a meeting once a quarter and write a few minor bills.AZGrizFan wrote:

Yeah, I'm bent out of shape about paved streets. Re: How Congress Works
Yeah it's sad but it's "our" fault. I"m talking about The People. We say we don't like the impact of money in politics yet we let ourselves be swayed by it instead of paying attention and having some idea as to the nature of the candidates.
Really. Think about it. When was the last time your vote was determined by a political advertisement? Do you think that, after some baseline for just getting to the point of getting known, the amount of funding a candidate has influences your vote? Was your decision on who you voted for to represent you in the House of Representatives or in the Senate determined by who had more money to advertise?
Your answer is probably "no." Yet every election it's clear that there are people who are influenced by it. And how they vote makes a critical difference.
So The People have nobody to blame but themselves.
