The first thing I thought was that they found their guy in Frisco over the weekend. Otherwise, it would be odd to wait this long.

But then again, we are talking about Newarkoffs.

I know UD has kinda been in a slump the past couple of seasons, but wow. He did take the team to three NC games. I think there's something else going on behind the seasons - as others have mentioned, the timing is odd.

On the timing (and of course I am speculating here but I know that there are often reasons for everything that seems strange), but it is curious that they didn't let him "resign". I think they did him a favor here by firing him. This may all be contractual. It could be that they arranged a firing in 2013 so he will be paid for a certain portion of the time remaining on his contract. I doubt he gets paid if he "resigns". Just a thought.

UD should see what Al Lavan is up too. He was the one who was going to bring us up to FBS when Sessoms hired him years ago.

The recruiting thing is overblown - this is still FCS football. These recruits are fine, but coaching is still what matters. Heck, Keeler won the title in '03 after taking over from Tubby in mid February of '02, so he won a title with only one of his own recruiting classes. Get the right guy in with the right attitude and he can take guys of this level to plenty of wins.

UD had to do something - Keeler was only part of the problem, but it's a part they could do something about now. Letting him stay was simply letting the program continue to stagnant. Gotta have something change.

So it was fairly shocking news when Delaware announced Monday that it had fired coach K.C. Keeler after 11 seasons as the Blue Hens’ coach.

While Keeler had his detractors for Delaware’s ups and downs during his tenure, the timing of the move caught many people by surprise. It came in the middle of recruiting season, a month-and-a-half after the Hens finished a 5-6 campaign in 2012.
