It's pissing in the wind to say it but the truth is there is no need to do anything. We live in a country of over 300 million. Something on the order of 500 deaths by injury occur per day on average among which something on the order of 30 are in the 0 through 17 years age range. There is a constant risk that a given child will die from injury every day. It is a low risk. And whether we go in one direction and implement draconian gun controls or in the other direction and arm teachers it will change that risk so little that as a practical matter it will be the same. We're just caught up in yet another instance in which our culture is over-reacting to a publicized event. The rational reaction would be to say that's really sad, to say that it's too bad it happened, then go on with our lives.

But we do not live in a rational culture. We live in a culture that is way over the top on the "public health and safety" thing.

I don't read it as blaming the school or anything like that unless you interpret mentioning that the school was a gun free zone as blaming the school. In fact he had some words commending the bravery of faculty, etc.

I disagree with him in many respects. I don't think a cause and effect relationship between violent video games and/or movies has been inferred. I think people are going down the wrong road in blaming such things.

But I also disagree with the idea of blaming guns. To me it's like someone throws a brick through your window so you want to ban bricks. It's a tool. The tool is not the problem. And though you might diminish the efficiency with which someone does something by denying them a particular tool you're not going to solve the problem by focusing on the tool.
