So LaPierre got repeated deferments from serving in the Military for a "nervous" condition.

Asshole shouldn't own ANY guns.

I guess people will hear what they want to hear. People are set in their ways on this issue. Nobody is listening to the other side.

Bottom line. I will fight peacefully for my 2nd Amendment rights. I hope it stays peaceful, because I will not relinquish my rightful property and Constitutional rights, whatever it takes. I will go all Montana if I have to.

I'm as neutral as you can get on this issue and I'm listening. Gun owners have been making some great points in these threads. But I'm not sure if La Pierre is a very good spokesman for your cause. And I fully acknowledge that someone like Nancy Pelosi is the equivalent.

Thing is, that is exactly what he said. The NRA is unwilling to compromise one iota.

I know of very few, if any, that are to the extreme on the other side - making all guns illegal.
Proposals I have heard:

1) Limiting magazine size
2) Limiting firing speed
3) Restrictions on amount of guns/ammo that can be bought at one time
4) Registration/licensing requirements
5) Stricter gun ownership requirements

The NRA has been allowed to dominate the conversation for so long, and has swung the conversation to the extreme on their side so far, that positions that would be considered moderate 20 years ago are now derided by the pro-gun loving crowd as anti-gun extremism.

None of the measures above are extremist positions.

We have restrictions/limitations on 1st Amendment rights. What makes the NRA's intrepretation of the 2nd so sacred that there can be no restrictions/limitations on 2nd Amendment rights?

Heck, LaPierre's solution was TO RESTRICT 1st Amendment rights, in order to allow people to keep worshiping at the gun altar.

National Firearms Act - 1934
Gun Control Act - 1968
Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act - 1994

There are plenty of restrictions already, Jon.

Look at the title of your thread, then answer who's the extremist.

N'th degree policymaking never succeeds.

The problem of preventing mass destruction is complex and it's already been proven that an assault weapons ban is not the solution.

And none of them would have prevented Newtown, Columbine, Denver... you name your shooting.

So the real question is, what is the point of new legislation, because it sure as hell isn't about preventing evildoers from plying their trade.

So let's start working on the restrictions.

How is calling extremists out for being extremists make me one? False argument. But one that the right loves to fling at people that call them out on their intolerance and hatred.

An assault weapon ban, by itself, is worthless. Has to be in concert with other steps.

Ditto.

Spewing hatred about the NRA, it's director, and a media conkhead merely reveals the extremity of your position, Jon.

While I disagree with 99% of the Brady organization's actions, I respect the founders for their intent. Unfortunately, their organization has been hijacked by macchiavellian extremists, whose actions have decimated the organization's noble intent.

They are not, however, "...sucking, fucking, assholes.", nor are(is) the NRA, Wayne LaPierre or Glenn Beck.

Stay focused.

Am I the only one here who sees the humor in the fact that the one guy who would most aptly be included in a thread about sucking and fucking assholes is the guy who authored the thread? :suspicious:

Or am I the only one who lacks a filter?

The left wing anti gun wackos are to blame.

They make "gun free zones" that are killing children and they do it to advance their political agenda. I have a feeling they are going to reap what they sow real soon in this country. The blood on the lefts hands cant be washed off by simply pointing fingers away from the root cause.

These are non Secret Service in addition to the Secret Service. Its apparently standard operating procedure for them, meaning even without Obama's daughters there, they'd still have armed guards at this school.

I can always tell when a right-wing meme hits, because you post it here, and a righty wacko posts the EXACT same thing on my Arizona Sports site.

And the proper response is SO? They pay a hell of a lot more to go there then you anti-tax for anything are willing to spend on public schools. The school also has children from many diplomatic corps, who ARE targets based on their home country.

It's pissing in the wind to say it but the truth is there is no need to do anything. We live in a country of over 300 million. Something on the order of 500 deaths by injury occur per day on average among which something on the order of 30 are in the 0 through 17 years age range. There is a constant risk that a given child will die from injury every day. It is a low risk. And whether we go in one direction and implement draconian gun controls or in the other direction and arm teachers it will change that risk so little that as a practical matter it will be the same. We're just caught up in yet another instance in which our culture is over-reacting to a publicized event. The rational reaction would be to say that's really sad, to say that it's too bad it happened, then go on with our lives.

But we do not live in a rational culture. We live in a culture that is way over the top on the "public health and safety" thing.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
