Long ago on a message board far away, there was discussion of moving the Championship Game from Chattanooga to Frisco. One argument proffered by those who didn't like seeing it go to Frisco was that most of the teams in championship games and in particular most of the champs had been teams from East of the Mississippi.
So it's moved there and...BANG...now we're going to have three national champs from West of the Mississippi in a row. Also only one of the six Frisco championship game participants has been from East of the River.
Surely moving the game couldn't "cause" something like that, right? Has to be serendipity.

Anyone else notice it's mainly non-east coasters that actually care whether or not the teams that win the NC come from the east coast? I mean, I don't think I've ever noticed anyone on AGS or CS bragging about the east coast dominance in the FCS.
At least your expressions of your inferiority complex (which I've never understood) aren't as annoying as the CAA arrogance we put up with from 2006 to 2010 or so. I'm not counting on that lasting very long, though. Only a matter of time before at least one of the CAA teams will rise again...too many good programs in that conference. If App doesn't get an FBS invite and Satterfield is as good as many are expecting they should be scary good in a few years, so be on the lookout for them as well.

Dude, if you were around AGS when they were talking about the change from Chattanooga to Frisco you either saw a LOT of bragging about how teams east of the Mississippi won almost all the national championships or you weren't looking.Pwns wrote:Anyone else notice it's mainly non-east coasters that actually care whether or not the teams that win the NC come from the east coast? But that's not what I'm doing anyway. All I'm doing is saying that there was discussion of how the game ought to stay farther east because most of the teams in the game in recent history and most who won it were from east of the Mississippi it wasn't a good idea attendance wise, etc., to move it west. Also discussion of how Montana was just about always the team if someone from west of the Mississippi DID make it.
And there was something to that. 29 of the 40 berths over the previous 20 years had been occupied by teams from east of the Mississippi. And there was no case in that time frame when two teams from west of the Mississippi were in the game while there were 9 cases in which two teams from east of it were in it. In fact until Sam Houston State played NDSU last year there had only been one case in the history of the I-AA/FCS playoffs when two teams from west of the Mississippi were in the game. That was in 1984 when Montana State played Louisiana Tech.
I just think it's ironic that after such discussion 5 of the 6 berths in the title game have been occupied by west of the Mississippi teams since the game moved to Frisco and we're about to have the second straight "all west of the Mississippi" championship game after having had that happen only once in the previous 32 years of I-AA/FCS playoffs.
I know it's not because the game is west. It was west a number of times early on in the history of the tournament. Just kind of ironic given the discussions I saw about why the game should stay east of the Mississippi River.
