God damn it pisses me off to no end when one of your ilk or some dummie on the news says assault rifle when it is just a god damned ar 15 or something similar.
Grizzaholic, you can't argue with with the ignorance of people like bilk and the masses who are spoon fed by the equally ignorant media when it comes to these things.
No kidding. All I was doing was giving him more information that he never bothered to learn or hear about and he just closes his damn eyes and covers his ears so he won't hear the other side. Those are the worst people.

Yep. Even though the sick f**K is dead, this is a prime example of why we need the death penalty, in case sick f**ks like this do survive their horrible acts.

Liberal media jumping all over themselves to get the story and place blame...their hatred is dividing and ruining this country.

How was that Cappy?
Exactly. Just 2 recent examples:

In the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case George Zimmerman had his address tweeted all over the web at the urging of Spike Lee. Except it was the home of a 70 some yr old couple who then had to fear for their lives. A different George Zimmerman had lived at the same address in the 90s...
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/ ... eet-567891" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the Aurora, CO theater shooting this past Spring, ABC incorrectly identified the shooter as a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, who they called a Tea Party member, when the shooter was a completely different person- James Holmes of Aurora.

The media should hold off on reporting identities until they are 100% sure confirmed. The laws in this country need to be changed so that whenever the media misidentifies someone in a tragedy such as these, that the media member who started it, the media outlet that employs them, and any other media outlets that report it, get their a**es sued off. :ohno:

I often drive right by Newtown on I84 when going to visit my brother & his family who live in Meriden, about a 1/2 hr from Newtown. Ironically, my niece and nephew go to an elementary school in Meriden, and my brother teaches at a nearby HS. He's a HS football ref (umpire) and has refereed at Newtown HS before. I've stopped at the Sandy Hook Diner and the nearby Subway. I just looked up on google maps, and turns out they're both about a half mi from the elementary school (the Subway a couple hundred yards as the crow flies). Just saw a parent on TV being interviewed with that Subway in the background.

Newtown, Conn. School District Had Recently Installed New Safety Protocols
In Letter To Parents Strict Guidelines Were Outlined For 4 Elementary Schools

".........................................................................................
"Dear Members of our Sandy Hook Family,

Our district will be implementing a security system in all elementary schools as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure student safety. As usual, exterior doors will be locked during the day. Every visitor will be required to ring the doorbell at the front entrance and the office staff will use a visual monitoring system to allow entry. Visitors will still be required to report directly to the office and sign in. If our office staff does not recognize you, you will be required to show identification with a picture id. Please understand that with nearly 700 students and over 1000 parents representing 500 SHS families, most parents will be asked to show identification.

Doors will be locked at approximately 9:30 a.m. Any student arriving after that time must be walked into the building and signed in at the office. Before that time our regular drop-off procedures will be in place. I encourage all parents to have their children come to school and return home on the bus and to remain in school for the entire school day. The beginning and ending of our school day are also important instructional times and therefore we want all our students to reap the benefits of full participation in our program.

We need your help and cooperation for our system to work effectively. Our office staff is handling multiple tasks. Though they will work diligently to help you into the building as quickly as possible, there may be a short delay until someone can view you on the handset and allow you to come in electronically. There are times during the day when office personnel are on the telephone, addressing student concerns, or in the copy room; there are other times when only one person is in the front office. Please help our staff by identifying yourself and provide your child’s name.

Keep in mind we will be following our district guidelines which may need revision once we test the system.

Please know your involvement continues to be critical to our school’s effectiveness and your child’s success. We continue to encourage and value your presence in our classrooms and are counting on your cooperation with the implementation of this safety initiative.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hochsprung"

It is unclear how the shooter, reportedly armed with a Glock 9mm and a Sig Sauer 9mm, with a Bushmaster .223 assault rifle waiting in a nearby car, gained access to the school or if he showed identification, or if he had entered prior to the 9:30 a.m. doors-locked mandate. It is also unclear how the shooter gained access to the school halls and classrooms......."

Good article in the Post about the influence of mental illness and the media in perpetuating gun violence. Also talks about the decline in the overall homicide rate but a large increase in the mass homicide rate.
...at least 38 of the 61 mass shooters in the past three decades displayed signs of mental health problems prior to the killings.

Of course, some of these shooters may have been in institutions before decentralization in the 60's. Yet, like gun owners and the media, the mentally ill have rights that should be respected. Shall we just get used to violence in America perpetuated by the descendants of the huddled masses?

It is sad that a tragedy like this brings out the idiots on both sides of the gun issue. We do have a gun problem in this country, and we need to address it. I'm not saying that we need to get rid of guns, we didn't ban airlines after 9-11, but we need to figure out a way to make ourselves safer. Maybe we should arm teachers, I don't know; but right now we are doing nothing to address the problem. :ohno:

We deserve to be fucked (and shot) if we can't have an intellegent discussion on how to at least try to keep guns out of the hands of nuts.

One other thing, we used to fight wars with rocks, and then we began to harness metals and alloys like bronze and iron. Eventually we discovered gun powder.

The Swiss used to be the most feared army in Europe, in large part because of their use of the halberd and pike. The Swiss decline was due in large part to the advent of gun powder.

It is possible to kill someone with a rock, it is possible to kill someone with a knife, but guns are better at killing people.

Once again, I'm not advocating that we should get rid of guns, but lets not try and argue that guns are no better than knives when it comes to killing people. A few weeks ago Fox News tried to argue that Jovan Belcher (who shot his wife) could just as easily strangled her. :dunce:

I would question all of it. You can't on the one hand villify the media because they fuck up the facts in an effort to be first with the story, and then fall back on media reports when they say something that you agree with.

Sounds like you only question authority when it suits you.

Bad things happen in places that do have strict gun laws. More guns might be the answer. Like I said, I don't know, but we should at least try and talk about it. Right now, it's just the blame game, and that never works.
