Michigan becoming a right to work state

Post by ASUG8 »

Right-to-work legislation makes it illegal to require financial support of a union as a condition of employment. Snyder and Republican leaders characterized the bills as giving workers a choice about whether they want to financially support a union. Democrats said the initiative is about union-busting and retribution for Proposal 2, a failed Nov. 6 labor-backed ballot initiative that would have barred a right-to-work law and enshrined collective bargaining in the state constitution.

The bills cover all public and private workers, except police and firefighters, who would be allowed to maintain closed union shops.

Thursday's actions left the Republican majority in position to send all the right-to-work legislation to Snyder's desk as early as Tuesday.

No committee hearings were planned, and by late Thursday, the House had passed one of the three bills in a 58-52 vote and the Senate had passed two others -- one for private-sector workers and one for public-sector workers -- by votes of 22-16 and 22-4, respectively.

I'm in Michigan right now and those who are against this are calling it "anti-working families" legislation with protests all over the state.

This is great news. I used to live in Michigan, and it desperately needs to get out from under the heel of the auto industry. While important, Michigan has much to offer.

Only 7% of Detroit 8th graders are proficient in reading. Those kids are probably better off with their teachers on strike.

Unions are directly tied into the basics of Donk thinking.

Weak-minded people group together and use their numbers to threaten and take money away from the smarter, more successful individuals.

You can't separate that idea from the Donk mentality...you'd kill the patient if you took away that hard-wired base level thinking.

Good grief...I'm starting to agree with everyone that you aren't funny anymore. It's like watching a comic that is afraid to try a new joke, so he just keeps rehashing the same old stuff.

If you ever come to a game in Newark, I'll treat you to a beer and then escort you over to entertain the folks at the Newark Senior Center. :thumb:

Naw don't sweat it, Clucky. I'm booked there for the whole month of January. Cap'n Cat is not attempting to be humorous here. That you cannot grasp the points is completely understandable.

And you, Clucks, have the parallel entertainment quotient of watching an orange rot. You're a sour, broke-dick Conk with a lisp, scoliosis and herpes.

The Cap'n hath spoken.

Long live Cap'n Cat.

I just saw a great presentation on economic convergence... and part of the message was America needs to recognize that global capitalism mandates that wages in America fall while others rise until a steady state is reached.

A few points were addressed:

1) Don't prolong the inevitable: let wages drop, no unions, no minimum wage.
2) Pass along corporate pension and health care obligations to the gov.
2) The decline in American wages needs to be managed to avoid chaos in the system.
3) It's a truly exceptional and tumultuous time (both good and bad) to be living.
4) Poorly functioning governments limit convergence, but not in the age of multinational corp.

Anyway, interesting stuff. A few questions about "what careers will be the most stable"... and the answer was predictable: civil engineers, education, health care. Those occupations that would produce a drastically inferior product if produced by a low wage state or nation.

The wife and I have been gearing up our skills to make a jump into the health care field if needed. I saw that opportunity many years ago.
