Can someone explain something for me, please?

Post by SuperHornet »

Fox News just reported that Ambassador Susan Rice has withrdawn her candidacy for Secretary of State. Their main point seemed to be that she withdrew over GOP concerns about her Benghazi statements.

Forget all that for a second. What I want to know is why was SoS even an issue here? According to the State site, Secretary Clinton is still there, and I've heard NOTHING about her leaving any time soon, despite a recent illness. Is she retiring? Is she supposed to take another Cabinet job? Or is Obama going to ask for Biden's resignation and get Clinton put in his spot?

This is kinda like talking about a football coach's replacement while he's still there....

When someone has announced they are leaving a position (Lke Hillary has), you want to have the replacement line up before Hillary2016! hits the road.

Horney, the breaking news is that Rice bowed out, not that H. Clinton is retiring, EVERYBODY already knew that.

Now as for the future,

John Kerry will be new Secretary of State much to the delight of the Republicans who are chomping at the bit to replace him with a Conk as soon as he accepts..

Hillary Clinton is riding a huge wave of popularity and world respect towards her eventual candidacy, nomination and election as the next POTUS in 2016.

Now back to Fox News with you silly pooh.

THIS is the response I was looking for, clenz. Observe Jon. Learn from him....

BTW, Jon, your mentioning Hillary's intention to leave is the first I've heard of it. Makes sense, though.

Of course, if she DOES do that, she's a quitter....

:dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

You need to find a new news source.

Two things;

1. It is not at all unusual for high profile cabinet positions to change after a POTUS has achieved re-election, commitments from these folks to serve are for the current administrations term, not future possible terms. Look it up, you will find this to be fact.

2. You need to find a new news source (see above)

No, it would not make her a quitter - it is customary for Cabinet officials to only serve one term - that is what she committed to when she was appointed.

How did you not know she was leaving the post? Heck, most news sources ran with that information pretty much the day after the election. Did you not watch the news for a week following the election? :coffee:

Rice withdrawing isn't much of a surprise - certainly was an overreach by Obama anyway. She was toxic following the fallout from the Bengazi fiasco. Him appointing her Sec of State was akin to Bush deciding to appoint Michael Brown (FEMA and Katrina fame) to be Sec of HUD right after Katrina - obviously that wouldn't have been well received either.

Not only that, Rice has problems stemming from Rwanda, Congo and Keystone.

Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Not so fast on the Clinton 16 campaign

The unlikelihood of President Hillary - She's most popular at a distance from the White House
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012 ... -elections" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The public seems to like Hillary a lot better when she's far removed from the presidency. The closer she gets the more distrust she evokes. When she ran in 2008, her popularity sagged. That's how she managed to lose a nomination that most people assumed was hers for the taking.

She is easier for people to take in the role of diplomat than politician. When she lectures dictators at the United Nations, voters tend to approve. When she lectures audiences in Iowa, they tend to bristle.
