Over/Under on GSU Rushing Yards against NDSU
Georgia Southern got 602 rushing yards on ODU yesterday. Now they're heading for a date with an entirely different animal in the form of the North Dakota State defense. Last year the Eagles rushed for 477 yards against ODU then for 360 against Maine before being squeezed down to 186 by the Bison.
Yesterday, though Wofford's option offense did not score, it did make the Bison defense look at least SOMEWHAT mortal by scratching out 262 yards rushing.
Here's my over/under for Georgia Southern's rushing yards total next week: 250.
Over or under?

Re: Over/Under on GSU Rushing Yards against NDSU
We may not get more total yards this year, but I would be willing to bet we get more rushing yards.
Forcing the QB run won't work this year. UCA tried that and McKinnon got 316 yards of rushing. This game will be won or lost depending on what GSU does in the NDSU red zone.
I'll go with 300 yards rushing.

Re: Over/Under on GSU Rushing Yards against NDSU
Easier call if you posted 300 yards.
Wofford was tough yesterday. They keep coming right at you between the tackles come hell or high water.
I'm going to say under just for the fact that GSU's defense is no where near as good as Wofford's and the Bison offense will be on the field longer keeping GSU's option off the field.
NDSU's LBers are fast and will keep the edge/perimeter contained.

What makes you say that? They probably are better overall, but "no where near as good" is quite a stretch.Bison Fan in NW MN wrote:Easier call if you posted 300 yards.

Evens statistically the gap between GSU and Wofford's defenses isn't all that big. And that takes into account facing much better passing offenses OOC than Wofford.

I said that because I think the Bison can pass over the middle on GSU. NDSU doesn't really have a deep threat at WR (maybe Vraa) but the middle looked open a lot versus ODU. Granted, ODU is a pass happy offense but IMO, the Bison can utilize the TE in the middle zone and WRs there also.
Wofford's defense is ranked #9 and GSU's #41.

You're going to say for a fact?Bison Fan in NW MN wrote: I'm going to say under just for the fact that GSU's defense is no where near as good as Wofford's....
Here are the facts:
Versus Western.
Wofford gave up 428 total yards. 335 to the pass and 93 rushing.
GSU gave up 207 total yards. 95 yards passing and 112 rushing.
Versus Elon.
Wofford gave up 410 total yards. 361 passing and 49 rushing.
GSU gave up 359 total yards. 302 in the air and 57 rushing.
Versus Appy.
Wofford gave up 363 total yards. 257 passing and 106 rushing.
GSU gave up 453 total yards. 383 passing and 70 on the ground.
Versus Furman.
Wofford gave up 319 total yards. 170 passing and 149 rushing.
GSU gave up 324 total yards. 184 passing and 140 rushing.
Versus Samford.
Wofford gave up 303 total yards. 165 passing and 138 rushing.
GSU gave up 354 total yards. 291 passing and 63 rushing.
Versus The Citadel.
Wofford gave up 335 total yards. 84 passing and 271 rushing.
GSU gave up 253 total yards. 85 passing and 168 rushing.
Versus Chatty
Wofford gave up 337 total yards. 234 passing and 103 rushing.
GSU gave up 316 total yards 118 passing and 198 rushing.
So please tell me that out of all those common opponents, how can you tell without a shadow of a doubt that Wofford's defense is soooooo much better than GSU's?

From watching Wofford in person yesterday and watching some of the GSU/ODU game before I left to watch the Bison game, yes, Wofford has a better defense.
We'll find out on friday, wont we....

Re: Over/Under on GSU Rushing Yards against NDSU
I'll go with GSU getting 400+ yards rushing. Over.
GSU is going to shake up the world.
OK, not the world. Just Fargo, ND.

Under 300 rushing, GSU doesn't have brute strength of EB in their backfield, a player that takes 2-3 guys to gang tackle. The Bison players are good 1 on 1 tacklers for the most part.

I'm going to say under 250 for the simple fact that GSU doesn't have a Breitenstein on their team. If they had a strong fullback, I would be all-in on the over, based on what Wofford did. As it is, GSU relies more on perimeter stuff- plays that I don't think will work nearly as well against NDSU's LB tandem as they did against ODU's and UCA's.

Like I said on AGS, consider the relative strength of the offensive schedule OOCBison Fan in NW MN wrote:

Wofford's defense is ranked #9 and GSU's #41.
GSU - Georgia, ODU, Central Arkansas, Jacksonville, Howard
Wofford - USC, New Hampshire, NDSU, Gardner-Webb, Lincoln
No comparison especially with respect to passing offense, which i a weakness of both GSU's and Wofford's defenss.

Yes, Wofford's defense is better.

#9 vs #41
Enough said
Oh ya, NDSU is #1.
But I'm sure in your mind GSU will rush for 600 against the Bison like they did against ODU.....

In my mind I believe GSU will rush for 600 yards every game they play. Anything wrong with it? I also have the outrageous notion that we should win every game we play (except when we play NDSU of course). Is that wrong too?Bison Fan in NW MN wrote:Baldy wrote: Actually, I gave you all the defensive statistics that are relevant...the statistics of how we did against common opponents.![]()

No, nothing wrong with believing in your team. All I did was post my opinion on what I have seen from Wofford and GSU.
Will GSU gain some yards? Of course they will. Now, it will not be anything close to the 600 they put on ODU but IMO, the Bison will hold them under their season ave.
Wofford was a tougher match-up for the Bison. EB was a beast to bring down. GSU does not have anyone comparable to him. Plus GSU like to get to the edge and NDSU's OLBers are very good and fast.
We'll see come friday.
