America is second ONLY to Israel (who we fund militarily and is not counted towards our numbers)

WTF are you guys talking about
It's a volunteer military

:silly:
$$ spent because the shit we buy is mostly made in America by Americans and is horribly expensive, plus we ship our troops all over the world. Go back and check your reading comprehension on citgrad's original post, junior. :coffee: :coffee:

No. It means dangerously close to becoming a hollow military. There are many in the military who didn't sign up to build an empire in SW Asia and no longer want a part of it.

"Hollow military"? WTF does that have to do with anything?

What good does it do for North Korea to have so many people in its military? Iraq had a large military...something along the line of the world's fourth largest, if I recall. How'd that work out?

We don't need a large military. Period. The only people who want us to have a large military are the military's suppliers (who make gobs of money), the Congressmen with those companies in their districts, and Europe.

F them all.

You only need large numbers of troops if you intend to occupy some place.

Citgrad was very clear: There are several countries that have larger militaries PER CAPITA than the U.S. And in fact, there are SIXTY FIVE countries that have a larger military PER CAPITA than America. Not that spend more. Not that have more tanks. Not that have more aircraft carriers. But have a LARGER MILITARY. The size of one's military isn't defined by how much you SPEND, it's defined by how many PEOPLE you have. We have the coolest toys, so we will ALWAYS spend the most, regardless of how large our military is PER CAPITA.

You seriously can't be this dense. How in the FUCK did you get through Harvard? :dunce:

Who's dense..?
North and South Korea China etc... have Mandatory Military Service Tenure's
So yeah... No sh!t they have larger per capita Military (fucking duh)

In a conversation about who spends the most per capita and who has the worlds largest Military

(and yes I am on a quest to take the Kingship Bad Analogy Title away from your weak sh!t)

My point is you can't have two distinctly different arguments designed to diffuse the key point...

Mandatory military service means nothing. It doesn't mean that everyone of a certain age must enter the military. Even when the U.S. had a draft, only a certain number were drafted in order to meet manpower requirements.

So now we're just going to completely change the topic of the debate
and argue actually how small the US Military is

(You guys are priceless  )

Yes I see according to your Chart (above) Fiji has a larger Military Force than the US...

I hope they don't decide to invade us. We don't have as many bayonettes and horses as we used to, and pretty soon we won't have as many ships.

Per Capita / which is a completely irrelevant statistic in this debate
But awesome for social studies class in 6th grade

And Hey CitadelGrad
Pretty much everybody on here knows I got thrown out, and I'm perfectly cool with my disgraced past
It doesn't hurt my feelings or make me angry
I did gloriously return from 2003 to 2008

I joyously witnessed first hand the 10 - 0 Harvard 2004 season
I was NOT in attendance at the H/Y game during "The Incident" brilliantly orchestrated diabolical "We Suck" game that was a 35 - 3 rout of Yale

I saw the Red Sox win their first world series in an ice age (and then another) it was fun then but I'm no Red Sox fan

I suffered through 5 ridiculous winters

I accomplished what I set out to accomplish / life is good / I couldn't ask for more

You can have a larger and less technologically advanced military or you can have a smaller and more technologically advanced military.

It really depends on what the mission structure is. Do you want to invade Canada and Mexico and occupy them for a few decades, or do you want to fly a drone over Somethingorotherstan and pop a Hellfire cap in Mahmoud's ass?

We have opted to go with Rumsfeld's "light footprint" strategy. It isn't particularly good for taking territory away from the Taliban or occupying Iraq for nine years. It is good for putting checkmarks on Obama's kill list.

So yes, size does matter. So does expense.

Why don't you just admit that you meant to say that we have the world's most expensive military rather than the world's largest? I haven't seen anyone get so pwned in a thread since any time that KYJelly decides to post a chart.

Yes.. I think that's been very clearly established in this debate
I was arguing cost
and you were arguing footprint

My feelings still aren't hurt
This is what debates are for - It's not like I am now somehow Less of a person or diminished spiritually and cast aside to a life of inner suffering because we argued two different sides of the same coin

There were two completely different arguments going on...
Look I've been pwned plenty of times on this forum - usually to my complete joy - but this was simply a 90 degree left turn in the middle of a specific debate
