Lombardi's in NY is probably my overall favorite to date, although I had some pretty average pizza in NYC also.

No doubt it's good, but just too heavy. I was in Chicago over Labor Day weekend and went to Pizza Uno (average) and Lou Malnati's (excellent). About two pieces of that stuff and I'm done.Ibanez wrote:I hate to be cliche, but the best Pizza i've had was in Chicago. I love a deep dish pizza.ASUG8 wrote:

Re: Papa John's founder is a douche!
While I have rarely met a pizza I could not eat, "NY pizza", as I interpret the saying, is they style (i.e. not deep dish). However, the NY area has a flavor that is clearly different than anywhere else in the country, and it is because of the ingredients used. The dough, the sauce, the cheese, etc. Where I live in VA, there is one place where a pizza shop guy from Brooklyn (no sleep till) orders his ingredients from NY suppliers. The cost of this versus local supplier brands of ingredients is much higher. But the pizza is an exact match for traditional pizza found in the NY area. And it is spectacular.
Damn. All this talk about pizza has me in a light-headed state and I can't remember the fucking point I was trying to make.

And you haven't had a Chicago-style pizza until you've had one in Chicago - Gino's, Uno's, Due's, or Lou Malnati's in the suburbs.
Thin vs. Deep Dish pizza is like Ale vs. Stout. They're both beers just different variations on the theme.

In Phoenix we have a chain called "Streets of New York" Pizza...they import their water from NYC. Claim the flavor is all about the water. Re: Papa John's founder is a douche!
Many NY'ers believe this to be true, especially in baking. They will swear bagels and other breads are different there because of the water. But that has changed a bit over the last 15 years or so as NY has used alternative methods of disifection of the drinking water such as chloramines versus chlorine.AZGrizFan wrote:In Phoenix we have a chain called "Streets of New York" Pizza...they import their water from NYC.
