Christie won't win the nomination (GOP payback is a b*tch! :| )

Maybe Rubio (has an "O" on the end of his name and from FL) and possibly someone from out West(?)

Dem - Hillary/?/?/?/?

There's not a meaninful Rep candidate west of the Mississippi right now.

And Hildabeast could very well pick the San Antonio mayor for her running mate. He's the newbie poster child for the Donk party.

Hillary vs Jeb Bush.

I like Christie, but I think he's going to have a tough time in the GOP primary.

If it comes down to it, I think Hillary beats Jeb, but not Christie.

Your posts are pure gold. A small town mayor who lost her bid for Congress is now suddenly a candidate for Pres or VP?

MSNBC was reporting today that Jeb Bush is already revving up his political machine in Florida, if he runs, he is the nominee.

Paul Ryan can pretty much forget about it, FDR is the last losing VP nominee to win the Presidential nomination, he was VP nominee in 1920 and was Presidential nominee in 1932.

Hillary vs Biden for the Democratic nomination is dead before it even began. A poll from Florida today shows Clinton leading 61% to 14%. Biden isn't liked enough to win a Presidential election, but if he backs Hilary from the start he can have one final significant position to add to his legacy as Secretary of State in a Clinton administration.

I could see Hillary choosing a latino as a running mate, Antonio Villaraigosa, the Mayor of Los Angeles is a solid choice or Julian Castro the Mayor of San Antonio, heck in four years Castro on the ticket may even give Democrats a chance at Texas, but it would likely lock up Florida and puts Arizona in serious play.

As for Jeb Bush, the obvious VP choice would be Marco Rubio, but them being from the same state, that cant happen, Jeb could legally move his residency to say Texas where his big brother and his son George Prescott Bush (More on him in a moment) live or perhaps Maine where daddy has his summer home in Kennebunkport.

If not Rubio he could go with Rob Portman, who Romney should have gone with.

As for George P Bush, he has filed paperwork naming a political campaign treasurer, though no one yet knows what office he has in mind. John Cornyn's Senate seat is up in 2014, but its more likely he would be targeting a US House seat or a statewide office.

I agree, Castro very well could be the VP nominee in '16.

I see others have kind of hinted at it but I'll put it bluntly:

Christie would not have a snowball's chance in hell of getting through a Republican primary after publicly sucking Obama's cock after the Sandy landfall. He did what he thought he had to do to get help to his State. But in doing so he ended any chance that he'd ever be a big player on the national scene as a Republican. If he decides to switch to the Democratic Party maybe. But he's not going anywhere nationally as a Republican.

It's possible he had no national ambitions anyway. If so that's fine.

BTW I don't think Christie sucking Obama's cock changed the bottom line outcome of the election. I don't think the Sandy landfall changed the bottom line outcome of the election. Might have been closer without it. But Obama still would've won. At least I think so.

But the way Christie handled that still made him a permanent pariah within the national Republican party.

Jeb Bush will also have difficulty getting through the Republican primary process because of some of the Statements he's made. They're recorded and will be distributed. He's going to be cast as a RINO and have a difficult time.

Not saying he can't make it. He's not a "no way" like Christie is now. But he'll have a tough time. When you're a Republican and you've got Chris Mathews singing your praises you're going to have problems trying to get a national nomination:

And if you get the nomination you're going to have base turnout problems.

What do you think a moderate on social issues is? Moderate and libertarian are contradictory terms. You can't be both. Also, I think there are differences among libertarians on things. For instance: I am a registered libertarian and I do not think abortion should be legal. The reason is that I think someone should be free to do what they want as long as they don't harm another individual; but abortion is harming another individual. I believe abortion should be illegal for the same reason I walking up and shooting a stranger in the street should be illegal. My liberty does not include freedom to engage in a direct, fatal attack on someone else.

I also know I am not the only libertarian who holds that position. I'm in the minority. But I'm not the only one. It's a position totally consistent with libertarian principles.

Now that I'm finished with that screed I'll get to saying what I've said in other threads: I think you under estimate the extent to which the Republican Party depends on social conservatives in general and Religious social conservatives in particular. If the Party alienates them it has no chance. The Party lost this election but it is at least competitive now. It won a national election in 2010. It lost this one by 51 to 48% in the popular vote. That is not a huge margin. And it was an election in which the Democratic candidate had an obvious edge in telegenic appearance and presentation style.

I went through the numbers in another thread but it would have no shot without the support of the "Religious Right." And it's very unlikely that it would gain more votes through moderating its social positions than it would lose. Not that the "Religious Right" would vote for Democrats. But a lot of them would sit the election out as they did this time (I suspect because Romney is a Mormon). To me we keep hearing people say that stuff about moderating but I don't see how anybody can look at exit polling data and think that would do anything but make the Republicans less competetive.

Christie's actions are exactly what both parties should be doing. But you can't afford to give your opponent any advantage in a two party system. I'll say it again...we need to break up the duopoly.
