Week 10 - Conference by Conference Breakdown

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Big Sky

CP 17-34 EWU
NOCO 32-28 PORTST
MTST 20-17 SAC
NAU 50-10 IDST
UMT 24-21 WEB
SUU 29-33 UND

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 17-16

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 5-3

Best Performance: (#7) Eastern Washington 34, (#16) Cal Poly 17 - The Eagles, ranked in the bottom half nationally in rushing yardage coming in, embarrass the triple-option Mustangs by outrushing them.

Worst Performance: Portland St. 28, Northern Colorado 32 - The Viks lose their second-straight home contest with UNC after blowing a 28-10 lead.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Colorado 32, Portland St. 28 - Sadly enough for the Bears, their 2-4 conference record is the best they've ever had in November since joining the Big Sky.

Southland

LAM 26-40 SFA
SELA 0-70 SHSU
NWST 14-35 UCA
MCNSE 42-10 NICH

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 14-15

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 5-3

Best Performance: (#4) Sam Houston St. 70, Southeastern Louisiana 0 - The Bearkats run for 405 yards and 7 touchdowns in eviscerating a Southeastern Louisiana team that was actually in first place at one point.

Worst Performance: Nicholls St. 10, McNeese St. 42 - Sheesh, are the Colonels a Jim-Mora-Saints reunion special? Not only do they have Bobby Hebert's son at QB, they apparently have Dalton Hilliard, Jr., playing running back for them.

    Most Surprising Result: (none)

Missouri Valley

NDSU 21-17 MIZST
UNI 40-0 WIU
SDKST 16-12 SIU
ILST 17-10 INST
SDK 10-13 YSU

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 18-12

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 12-3

Best Performance: (#17) Illinois St. 17, (#14) Indiana St. 14 - 2 forced interceptions by the Redbirds are the entire difference in a game where the yardage totals were exactly even.

Worst Performance: Western Illinois 0, Northern Iowa 40 - The Leathernecks have been outscored 82-3 the last two weeks by teams with a combined record of 6-13.

Most Surprising Result: (#14) Indiana St. 14, (#17) Illinois St. 17 - A late-season swoon cost the Sycamores a shot at the playoffs last season. Fortunately for this year, however, their lone remaining opponent is a Youngstown team that forgot football goes past September.

OVC

EKU 31-7 SEMO
TSU 28-49 MUR
EIU 31-24 TTU
JAXST 47-49 UTM
CULVER 0-56 AP

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 15-12

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 11-3

Best Performance: Murray St. 49, (#18) Tennessee St. 28 - The Hatch-Attack scores 4 unanswered touchdowns to close the game in crippling TSU's conference-title hopes.

Worst Performance: (#18) Tennessee St. 28, Murray St. 49 - The Tigers haven't made the playoffs since 1999, and—just like in 2008—they may have blown a chance to end the drought.

Most Surprising Result: Murray St. 49, (#18) Tennessee St. 28 - The Racers give up less than 30 points for just the third time this season.

Patriot League

FORD 24-27 BUCK
LAF 41-65 COLG
LEH 36-35 HC

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 17-16

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 16-15

Best Performance: Colgate 65, Lafayette 41 - Jordan McCord's 203 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing are totally overshadowed by QB Gavin McCarney's 288 yards and 3 rushing TDs. Oh yeah, did I mention McCarney also threw for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 17 attempts?

Worst Performance: Fordham 24, Bucknell 27 - Too many mistakes for the Rams: 3 turnovers, 4 sacks allowed, and 10 penalties.

Most Surprising Result: Bucknell 27, Fordham 24 - The Bison end a 7-game losing streak despite their solid defense uncharacteristically giving up 404 yards.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

The defense for TSU took last Saturday off as stated before if they want to advance to the playoffs the defense must come to play from now on.

That 17-10 Illinois State win could have been a shutout. A penalty on a 4th down punt cost the birds the ball and INS drove and scored. Then the Trees get the onside, kick a FG and in 30 seconds they went from 0 to 10. While yardage was even, Illinois State was in complete control up to the last 30 seconds

That is unbelievable. If the Tribe had any consistency on offense.........

This week is not the time to find it though. :tothehand:

YALE 0-20 BROWN
PENN 28-21 PRINCE

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 14-10

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 14-10

Best Performance: Penn 28, Princeton 21 - Quakers force 4 turnovers in handing Princeton another upset loss.

Worst Performance: Columbia 0, Harvard 69 - Not only do the Lions give up the most points they've ever given up in their series with Harvard, they get shut out too.

Most Surprising Result: Princeton 21, Penn 28 - The Tigers just can't shake the Penn curse, losing to the Quakers for the 13th. time in the last 15 meetings.

SWAC

UAPB 49-3 TXSO
ALST 35-21 PVAMU
JSU 53-17 GRAM
SU 23-24 AAMU (OT)
ALCORN 9-33 MVSU

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 4-14

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 1-8

Best Performance: Alabama St. 35, Prairie View A&M 21 - A 6-1 turnover margin will overcome most any yardage deficit.

Worst Performance: Alcorn St. 9, Mississippi Valley St. 33 - A 17.5 yard average disadvantage on net punting & a 18.7 yard average disadvantage on net kickoffs make a big difference in a game where the stats were otherwise even.

Most Surprising Result: Alcorn St. 9, Mississippi Valley St. 33 - The Braves' 5-game winning streak over MVSU comes to an end.

Pioneer League

JU 16-19 BUT
DRAKE 13-28 DAY
VALPO 41-21 CAMP
DVDSN 14-49 MHEAD

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 9-21

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 3-18

Best Performance: Dayton 28, Drake 13 - The Flyers sack Mike Piatkowski 4 times and force 2 interceptions.

Worst Performance: Campbell 21, Valparaiso 41 - In an effort so pathetic it got their coach fired, the Camels give up 248 yards rushing to Jake Hutson & a 91% completion percentage to Crusader QB Eric Hoffman.

Most Surprising Result: Valparaiso 41, Campbell 21 - For the first time this decade, we can say Valparaiso is not the very worst team in FCS.

I can't wait until Florida A&M meets Bethune Cookman the Rattlers should help retiring coach Taylor go out with a win over the Wildcats. If that happens my alma- mater NC Central should get its first visit to the 1-AA playoffs.
