Cal Poly v Sac St
I am really looking forward to this game and that kind of surprises me.
When Cal Poly joined the BSC I remember feeling like this designated rivalry thing was a bit of a joke. UC Davis is certainly a rival but Cal Poly and Sac St have not really played as often. Honestly, over the last 5-10 years I think Montana has been one of the few BSC schools that has regularly played Poly.
The Davis game was early in the season and now here we are with Sac St in just a few days and the game actually has some real meaning. One because it is regional and so there is always a bit more hype about that kind of game and two because it is actually meaningful. Sac is in the playoff hunt and I'd say are seething to get this win. If they can pull it off they jump into the rankings and become a serious playoff contender. Cal Poly is undefeated yet there are many who belittle their success saying they haven't played anyone (which is BS but I'll leave that to another thread).
In either event, both teams have a ton to gain and a lot to lose.....Ironically its exactly the kind of set up you would want for a rivalry game.....so here it to the Green and Gold Rivalry Game.
Go Poly!

Here's to a good game Saturday!
If it looks like a cow, smells like a cow, and moo's like a cow, it's a UC Davis coed.

I'm not sure if I want the Hornets to pull off the upset or not. If they did, it would take it down to just EWU and NAU undefeated in conference, but I down want a pissed off CP team coming to Cheney. Regardless, CP needs to beat NAU at the end of the year.

I am far more worried about playing Sac this weekend than playing EWU (no disrespect intended). Here is why....we should beat Sac. If we went to Cheney and lost I'm not sure we'd take that much of a hit. EWU (or NDSU) is the best team in the country and even I don't think Cal Poly has risen to that level yet.
EWU should beat Poly at home. If Cal Poly manages to stay undefeated even the bastards that refuse to show them respect in the media and coaches poll will be forced to put them in the top 10 maybe higher. In other words neither EWU or Cal Poly would lose that much in a loss. They'd both still be playoff bound .....but a loss to Sac this weekend puts all of that in question.
Re: Cal Poly v Sac St
I'm looking forward to this game too. Our playoff hopes largely hinge off this game. Kindling the regional significance is a long time coming too. The series will bring in large numbers of visiting fans, making for a great atmosphere, and hopefully both teams will remain competitive, making for a meaningful conference conference game once a year. Looking forward to years of new traditions!

We are gonna find out if Cal Poly is the real deal or not after this game. This is definetly the most difficult game on the mustang schedule to date.

How many wins over teams with a winning record does MSU have? Honest question.cats2506 wrote:First game CP has played against a team with a better than .500 winning percentagejacksdude0109 wrote:We are gonna find out if Cal Poly is the real deal or not after this game. Good posts CPAlum. Unfortunately if we win this (I tend to agree with you that CP "should" win this) all the polsters will pull a "see, we knew CP wasn't that good" nonsensical stance. A win for us would put is in playoff contention (a loss pretty much takes us out of the picture) and might bump us to a high 20's rankning in the polls.
I hope I get back to SD in time to watch this game, I'll be in LA the morning of watching the Pac-12 XC Championship.

It's ironic, early in the season folks said Cal Poly would have a tough road against Wyoming and UND. Now we beat those two and apparently that didn't mean squat.
All Cal Poly has done is win every game they've played; all but two by double digits.
I know.... Cal Poly had it easy cause they didn't play Montana....well lucky for Montana.

Did some research. Here is what I found:SloStang wrote:How many wins over teams with a winning record does MSU have? Honest question.cats2506 wrote:

Chadron State 33-6 (6-2). Congrats you beat a winning DII team.
at Drake 34-24 (6-2). Congrats again, you beat a winning non-scholarship FCS team by 10. Woo Hoo!!!
S.F. Austin 43-35 (3-4). Almost a 500 record.
Northern Colorado 41-16 (2-5) 25 point win against a team Cal Poly beat by 28. I am just saying....
at Southern Utah 24-17 (3-5). Almost.
at UC Davis 48-41 (3-5). 7 point win against a team Cal Poly beat by 8. I am just saying again.....
Eastern Washington 24-27 (6-1). There was your chance to beat a winning fully funded FCS team. Oh well.
I can see where you would want to take a shot at the records of the teams Cal Poly has beat. You are trying to distract people from looking too close at the record of the team you have played. I am not saying......I am just saying

Re: Cal Poly v Sac St
I really think Montana State is a very good team. I just find it funny that someone from there is calling Cal Poly out because of their schedule. Cal Poly and Montana State only had control over their non-conference schedule. Cal Poly scheduled San Diego, Wyoming and Eastern Washington. Montana State scheduled Chadron State, Drake and SF Austin. Which is the tougher non-conference schedule? As far as conference schedule all I hear is how Cal Poly has it easy because they are not playing Montana (1-4 in conference) or Montana State. There are only three undefeated teams in Big Sky Conference play (Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona and Cal Poly). Cal Poly plays the other two. Montana State only plays Eastern Washington. You would think people who are calling Cal Poly out for an so called easy conference schedule would also call out Montana State for playing and easy conference schedule because they do not play Cal Poly or Northern Arizona. Once again, I am just saying......CPAlum wrote:SloStang wrote: Did some research. Here is what I found:

I know MSU is a very good team but the double standard here is painfully obvious....and actually I'll just say it, Cal Poly plays a tougher (yes I'm serious) schedule that MSU.

This should be a great game and I doubt highly that it will be a breeze. The Big Sky is tight this year and I expect it will get tighter before its all said and done....

Poly will end up having played one of the better schedules in the conference with UND, Sac, EWU, and NAU on it.

You guys have no.#3 ranked rushing attack in 1-AA 314.00 per game Sac St allows 116.00 #16 rush yds per game.Deonte Williams is among the best RBs at this level. For some reason I thought Cal Poly was pass happy after seeing ex-Mustang Ramses Barden. As stated before Mustangs in a breeze!!!Another chance for Williams to enhance his chances for the Payton Award as a nominee.SloStang wrote:I wish, but I think it will be a slug fest.dal4018 wrote:Poly should win this game in a breeze!!!

This shocks me neither team is ranked in the area of scoring defense but Cal Poly averages 38 ppg. ranked 8th and Sac St carries a 27.25 scoring average. What gives?!?!?!?!?CPAlum wrote:dal4018 wrote:Poly should win this game in a breeze!!!

CP Alum your alma-mater has a guy named Josh Swaney at the WR position 6-5 225 would be nice to get him a few deep balls. Also they have other WRs at 6-3 in the 180-190 pound range they could use a workout as well.
