SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Holy sweet Jesus dude. Nobody fixes bayonets anymore, I can't remember the last time I put a bayonet on my weapon. Basic training maybe. We had a box of them we never opened so we wouldn't have to count the fuckers. You missed the boat on this one. Nobody is calling a bayonet charge at the end of a battle anymore. Overwhelming force doesn't call for a cold steel at the end of the day in 2012. You'd be better smashing somebody with your rifle or just stabbing them.

Here is what Obama said: “we also have fewer horses and bayonets,”

Fewer isn't the same as none. Try getting your facts right next time. On second thought don't, it's much more fun when you embarrass yourself. Keep up the 'good' work.

I had a feeling that Obma was wrong. That's why I said:
BlueHen86 wrote:He didn't say that we don't use bayonetes. He said that we have fewer now than we did in 1916. I don't know if that's true, but if you're going to say Obama lost, you should at least get his talking point right.
Doesn't change my argument though. Fewer is not the same as none. Still an idiotic thread attempt by stuporhornet.

Too bad Romney wasn't astute enough to fire back, apparently he was just as clueless. The next day 'Contanza' comeback doesn't work too well.

I don't think he "lost" but I don't think he helped himself votes wise either. I'm saying that without having watched the debate. Just looking at the polls and the aftermath.

I did see some clips and, on a personal note, I had to shake my head at the arrogance of Obama. I mean really. Acting like experience in foreign policy experience is SO important when he came into office with the least experience relevant to being President of any person to assume the office in my lifetime. And probably for a lot longer than that before I was born. The guy was totally unqualified by experience for the job.

I'd say if one were to agree that Obama has been successful in the foreign policy area one would have to agree that one doesn't need to have much of a resume in terms of experience in order to be successful in the foreign policy area.

Anyway I was hoping that Romney would take the tack having his staff research Obama's writings for stuff on Obama's world view. Obama's got a pretty good sized paper trail and I think they could've found stuff that would turn a lot of people off. I think they could've quoted him and used his own words against him. You know, turn it into a discussion of Obama's world view and his view of the United States' place in the world. Then ask which world view you want calling the shots.

That apparently didn't happen. But I get the impression Romney had a particular strategy and that things worked out about like he wanted them to. If the clips are any indication Obama came off as a real jerk. Under such circumstances you could have people who say he won the debate on points but also thinking he's a jerk they don't want to vote for.

And I agree with staying away from the Libya thing. I think that was smart.

Conventional wisdom appears to be that he came in with a strategy more aimed at not doing anything to really hurt himself rather than to try to nail Obama. Some have pointed out that Romney has always been a cautious campaigner. The idea is that he didn't want to stick his neck off and risk losing big ground from the position he's in.

If a news organization has to pimp so hard that a certain candidate won a debate...I begin to the think that particular candidate did NOT win the debate. I laugh at certain 24 hour news organizations, including the national 7 PM news for their pimping that it is actually a big turnoff. So happy I no longer watch the 24 hour news on a continuous basis any longer.

A big turnoff that I have been noting in the President is his constant name calling. He is turning into Joe Biden who just disrespects outright their opponent.

Then how about something simple, like explaining why he thinks we need more ships.

Zingers are great, but they don't win elections. The best zinger of all time may be Lloyd Bentsen's 'You're no Jack Kennedy' line, but Bentsen still ended up on the losing side. Obama's zinger was funny, and it works if Romney has no come back. If Romney wants to take the high road he should do it. Sitting there quietly is what cost Obama the first debate.

Spin is a funny thing. Obama is too quiet and he loses a debate. Romney is too quiet and he is cautious.

If he overwhelmingly won the debate the polls would be showing it, but instead it has Romney and Obama in a dead heat.

One is factual, while the other is subjective. One actually happened, while the other is based on opinion.

Just because it's based on opinion, doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

We'll see. It should take a few days to see if there's any suggestion of an effect.

Since I'd like for Romney to win I would have liked it if he would've been more aggressive while, as I said, trying to keep the focus on contrasting general world views and away from details. But I think he was taking the tack of just trying to avoid a big disaster. The story after the first debate wasn't only that Obama was quiet but that he looked tired and disinterested. I haven't gotten the impression that Romney was quiet or looked disinterested or anything. It just sounds like he wasn't real aggressive. Like Obama was taking a lot of shots and he wasn't going to respond in kind. It looks like most people seem to think it was a conscious strategy.

I agree. I think it was a conscious strategy, but I think he was too passive. It wasn't a disaster like Obama in the first debate, but at times it looked like he was being lectured.
