US Soldiers Guarding Opium Poppy Fields in Afghanistan...
I find it rather strange that our tax dollars are being used to help farmers grow opium poppies.. does anyone else have a problem with this?

Here's a funny fact for everyone, before we invaded the country, the Taliban had almost completely eradicated the production of Opium!
In this paper titled: Where have all the Poppies gone
http://www.scribd.com/doc/28709721/Tali ... fghanistan" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"The following section gives an overview of the history of the opium poppy in Afghanistan and the rise of the Taliban regime.It is followed by a description of events leading up to,and constituting the implementation of, the enforcement of the ban on poppy cultivation in 2001"
So, the Taliban had in fact banned opium production in Afghanistan, now we have our troops guarding Poppy fields!! Does it have to get any more obvious?
Heroin use since 2001 in the US has gone through the roof!

and they're trying to blame the spike on the Taliban, when in fact the Taliban had virtually eradicated Poppy farming!

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

An organization needs to be flexible in these tough budgetary times.

I think it's cool. Opium is good stuff. And the fact that the Taliban was banning it is another good reason to get rid of the Taliban.
Now if we could just get the Taliban types in OUR country to get off the recreational drug prohibition kick maybe we could make some progress to getting back to the idea that individual liberty is the primary point of the existence of this country.

I see where you are going with this. The poppy is the natural enemy of the Taliban.expandspanos wrote:I find it rather strange that our tax dollars are being used to help farmers grow opium poppies.. does anyone else have a problem with this?

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Long live the poppy.
