I thought many of you would appreciate this:

The Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the index ranking for the NCAA Division I FCS and a top indicator of at-large playoff selection has unbeaten Cal Poly as the new No. 1. Five MVFC schools rank in the Top 12, and the Missouri Valley Football Conference is the No. 1-rated league.

The Colonial Athletic Association also have five teams in the top 25; the Big Sky Conference has four teams; the Southland Conference and Southern Conferences have three each; the Ohio Valley Conference has two; the Northeast and Big South Conferences plus the Ivy League each have one. (Games through 10/14/12)

The Final 2012 GPI will be released once all the college football games have been played, in January 2013. The GPI is an exclusive property of College Sporting News, maintained since 2001. The GPI has been used officially by the NCAA since 2008 for selecting specific Division I Football National Championship tournament participants.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference ended last year as the nation's top-rated conference in the GPI, and North Dakota State was rated No. 1.

Ugh, why is this piece of crap even here? Since we're getting rid of the BCS from FBS, and since this thing is just a BCS-redux, can't we just trash it too? I remember when someone kept claiming that this thing was the best predictor of playoff participants, but then after several horrible years, and recognizing that picking who the playoff teams would be was pretty easy, that claim went away.
