I was joking about Idaho, but I think SUU and UVU would be decent fits.

UVU = Utah Valley University.

Oh...there have been people in the past couple of years that think Idaho should drop back down and be back in the BSC. Me, I don't really care. I do wish that the Griz would play them once every couple of years just to keep the series and trophy alive. Thanks for the UVU definition.

Idaho will never come back to FCS or the Big Sky for that matter. Personally I like SUU and have been, as BF says, riding their dick the past couple of years. SUU is going to be tough again this year and will be in the hunt. UVU??? What school is that?
Utah Valley University, in Provo. Used to be a Junior College, been a four year school for about 5 years now. In midst of 7-year NCAA transition to D-1 (so long because of old JC status).

Why the hell does EVERYBODY want a sorry ass team like Southern Utah in the Sky? we already have southern Utah in the form of Idaho State.
Southern Utah=incompatible
they suck!
their stadium sucks
they're a low budget team
it would comprimise the quality of the league.
-----------------------------------------------------
cal poly= good fit
good team-
good stadium
good location
good quality

maybe even uc davis but it you take 1 u probably take both.

the ncaa says a div1a needs;
30k seat stadium
average 15k fans every 2 years
85 skollies..blah blah

I checked ncaa website and i think Idaho averaged just above 15k fans. from Wikipedia:
"The Kibbie Dome officially seats just 16,000 for football, making it the smallest venue in Division I-A" even with bearly making attendance quota & having an undersized stadium [[even with the coming expansion to 20k]] AND being a horrible team... they still arent heading towards FCS

In Idaho's defense, I think they should stay where they are. If they wish really hard Santa might bring a bowl game in a couple years, thats BETTER than a FCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP .........in America's eyes.

There are other issues involved.

They need addl. practice field space. Currently, they all practice on one field...all 100 +/- players...with D on one end, O on the other, and KR/Kickers in the middle...makes for a bit of a dance. Plus, there's no privacy...no way to block public view. Don't know of too many FBS programs that operate without at least ONE private field outside of public view. Training, AD and team facilities are probably sufficient for THEIR team, but since the stadium isn't located on or adjacent to Campus...those facilities aren't available on game day...not saying that eliminates the possibility, but again, most FBS programs have extensive training/medical facilities located VERY CLOSE to the stadium to deal with injuries from BOTH teams. Even the Kibbe Dome has FBS level training/medical facilities located within the stadium complex. Not saying it couldn't be done...just that there would be other factors involved in addition to a stadium makeover.

Im assuming your talking about Portland State University, & all they would have to do is negotiate some training facilities in pge park BEFORE they renovate it. And practice space could be allocated someway.

I also have a question... is it cheaper for psu to "rent " pge park or build there own facility?

Right now there are three training tables in each team's locker room...period. Used for taping, everything. Since the game facility is off-campus, the don't transport any of the medical equipment to the stadium on game day. That is NOT FBS caliber facility. As for the practice fields...the area to the north or their one practice field has been shanghai'd for some "peace, love and earth", new age pseudo-science single story building...and a 1/4 acre sitting area with some expensive looking granite inserts...which, if I had my way...

The improvements shown to PG&E are mere window dressing. Lack of parking is the No. 1 problem (did I mention Portland has legalized "predatory towing" with tow trucks that cruise around on game day, impounding and towing off cars that are parked illegally? And for a fee of $200, add $50 for an attitude penalty if you yell at anyone...SERIOUSLY...and they use it, plus a $40 cab fare to get to their tow yard on the north end of town), and drawing fans to their homegames is No. 2. Fix those two problems first, THEN worry about the stadium.

Yes dback...I got towed...as well as a friend of mine...

Add $20 to $40 for parking in a local business or church parking lot on gameday...and they wonder why attendance is so low...

You are just supposed to use their cheap and efficient public Transportation to get to the game...

The towing companies sound like the ones that used to hang around the gay bars in Nashville.

...forgot to answer your question...

An on-campus facility would face the same parking issues as PG&E park...currently there are only two multi-story parking facilities within a 2-3 block range...and parking on the street in Portland is the purest form of "penalty fee as a form of tax subsidization" as ever existed in the U.S. Their parking meter maids stalk cars like psychopaths...had King Solomon employed the Portland parking enforcement folks...the course of history would've changed...

Anyone wanting to drive to a game had better start early. Don't ever expect close parking to PGE. It's right in the middle of the city, for crissake! PSU provides shuttle buses from about 20 blocks away, parking at its parking structures, which are empty on Saturdays or nearly so. Forget it if you expect a vast sea of asphalt around the stadium a la NFL. Or, you can go the slow way and take the trolley from PSU.

The only way I envision PSU moving up is for the much ballyhooed rejection of the eastern bottom-feeders of the WAC to happen. The only other option would be to go the indy route, and only the Notre Dames and the Naval Academy can seem to survive that way. Heck, even the "other" PSU left the indy route about fifteen years ago. If a school of that nature requires a conference, then the Vikes will as well.

Maybe you haven't been paying attention or don't like the facts, but SUU, UNC, ISU and SacSt consistently play at the same level, living at the bottom of two conferences. No need to concentrate them into one. Since you mention it :butt: :butt:

Im assuming your talking about the performance in football and basketball, other than that Sac State has some good athletic teams.

In case you havent been paying attention, most Griz posters talk about the same 3 things; moving up, changing the BSC, and the schedule. Its tiresome and very very old, please save us the egriz rhetoric.

The category of this forum is Championship Subdivision Football; I try to stick to that. As it relates to what Griz fans talk about, it is becoming a challenge; guilty as charged. Same old, same old every year...

You're right, I veered off topic. I know the Hornets havent been consistent but one has to admit that the program has greatly improved, Sperbeck is turning out to be just what the program needed.

Time will tell. I hope you're right, but it will take a better team than the one we saw in Missoula last year to convince.

Portland state's football team suffers from 2 main things:
1. lack of quality skill guys. im not sure how good their o/d line is but they had that kirkland guy 2 years ago and thats all they've had in a while, they also had dominic dixon @ corner who was pretty good. other than that, they need a coach who wants to get down & dirty [no homo].... travel to the slums of Oakland and Los Angeles to get these 5'10 4.3 guys that didnt get picked up by the other southern cal pipeline schools.

2. That weak ass baseball field of a stadium, it should be cool when they transform it to a rectangle. but GOTDAMN! Stop being cheap and build a stadium! They are trying to get a cool stadium through the backdoor, banking on a MLS soccer team to pay the bills.... what if this deal falls through??? they will be FVCKED!

Good luck beating Eastern, Montana state AND Montana in the same season you cheap sons of bitches!

Im not really going to laugh, but wouldnt it be kinda humorous if the deal did go through and they kicked PSU out?

Im all for PSU playing in a Stadium of thier own, not a baseball field, and I dont think PSU should move up to FBS, unless they want to be like Utah State every year.
