Hornets BEAT SUU 27-22
27-22 Final. Hornets (4-2, 2-1 BSC) hold Sorensen to only 6 2nd half points. Hornet D really stepped up. Safron had an awful 1st half but made some plays with his feet in the 2nd half and threw a better ball.

What a great win. 3 straight road wins. We haven't had 3 road wins in a season since 1991! Keep it going.

4-2. This is uncharted territory for me. Never in my Hornet fandom have I ever experienced this. I think I'm going to start buyng lots of lottery tickets.

Well, the last time I saw this was when I was an undergrad back in both the 1999 and 2000 seasons.SDHornet wrote:4-2. This is uncharted territory for me. Never in my Hornet fandom have I ever experienced this. I think I'm going to start buyng lots of lottery tickets.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. Al Swearengen

Well, my 1-10 prediction looks pretty bad now.
This is the biggest Big Sky surprise to me along with Weber being 0-6.

When was Fred Amey there? I thought I remembered Sac having a couple decent seasons in the late 90's or early 00's.SDHornet wrote:4-2. This is uncharted territory for me. Never in my Hornet fandom have I ever experienced this. I think I'm going to start buyng lots of lottery tickets.

True, but you guys did go 4-7 with playoff-caliber talent last year.SactoHornetAlum wrote:These aren't the Steve Mooshagian Hornets anymoreMvemjsunpx wrote:Well, my 1-10 prediction looks pretty bad now.

Sac went 7-4 in 2000 when Ricky Ray & Charles Roberts were seniors. A blown 20-0 lead in Missoula (losing on an option pitch that was intercepted & returned for a TD) and a late loss to then DII rival Davis cost them the playoffs.EWURanger wrote:When was Fred Amey there? We may have started last season with playoff caliber players but we didn't end with the same players.Mvemjsunpx wrote:True, but you guys did go 4-7 with playoff-caliber talent last year.SactoHornetAlum wrote:

What most people that haven't done their homework don't realize is that the week after we beat Montana we went to Montana State and lost several key skill players for the season. A week after that we lost our starting QB for the season. We also had a freshman kicker with a such a mental block that the coaches couldn't even let him kick PATS or even simple FGS. Despite it all Safron, a RS freshman and a group of young inexperienced players played competitive ball the rest of the way all losses were within a score. Two games, EWU and NAU were directly related to not having a (even average) placekicker.

Yup. Even with all those injuries, we go no worse than 6-5 last season if we had a kicker who could at least make some fucking PAT's. Thank God that hole was fixed in the offseason.Green Laser wrote:We may have started last season with playoff caliber players but we didn't end with the same players.Mvemjsunpx wrote:

I never understood your 1 win prediction for us. At a bare minimum we are the new NAU (5-6 wins per year).Mvemjsunpx wrote:Well, my 1-10 prediction looks pretty bad now.

Fred Amey was about all we had. He was in the mid-2000's (one of the few bright spots during the Moosh era). Everyone would look forward to punt returns when we had him, the guy was a stud. I never understood why people would punt to him.EWURanger wrote:When was Fred Amey there? I thought I remembered Sac having a couple decent seasons in the late 90's or early 00's.SDHornet wrote:4-2. I got one of those luck of the Irish/ Cal Poly shirts....kind of cool but also kind of reminds me of the Fighting Irish which makes me a bit sick to my stomach. Cal Poly is a bit underrepresented in the Big Sky store...
I would have gone 6 for 6 again had Sorenson not decided to take a vacation in the second half.
Sac played with some heart yesterday...looked really solid on defense which frankly seems unusual to me. At 4-2 they are right in the mix; The Big Sky really is shaping up to be pretty damn good this year.

Re: Hornets BEAT SUU 27-22
Our defense has been pretty solid under Parker the past few seasons. What has made our defense look bad is a sputtering offense that can't keep our defense off of the field, so they get stuck our there for longer than they should be and get worn down and give up points. Also not showing up in the box score was a huge goal line stance that made SUU settle for a FG when it was 1st and goal at the 1 in the 1st qtr. Our defense isn't great, but it has kept us in games and given us a chance to win almost every week. I'll take that heartfelt play any week.CPAlum wrote:Thanks....everyone gets lucky once rightSDHornet wrote: Thanks. BTW congrats on winning last weeks Big Sky Challenge.
