SacSt - WIU
SUU - USD

Without looking at power ratings this is how I'd go:

Montana State - NDSU NDSU
EWU - YSU YSU
Cal Poly - Illinois State Cal Poly
NAU - SDSU SDSU
Montana - UNI Montana Only because UNI has had SUCH problems with Montana.
UND - Indiana St UND
SacSt - WIU SacSt
SUU - USD USD
UCD - SIU UCD
PSU - MSU No clue

But the problem with that kind of breakdown is that the Big Sky has three more teams and three Big Sky teams that have a total of two wins between them are left out.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

IMO the teams at the very bottom don't matter either way. If we're talking about strenght of conference, I think you only really need to compare the top 6-7. Like you said about PSU vs MSU... no clue. That's because they are both irrelevant.

The best thing about FCS is we have a playoff system. Could you imagine if we used the BCS formula. Even those clowns finally realized how assinine that was.

I'll say this - there will be an extreme shortage of, if any, 7-4 teams in the field of 20 this year. Take a look at the schedules, I don't see that many losses for some of these teams in the SoCon, the Big Sky, the MVFC, the CAA. There are only 10 at-larges to go around.

It's a joke because he has you guys losing badly? I can see NDSU smoking just about anyone and I'm not sold on a EWU team yet. Your three wins are against teams with a combined 2-13 record. EWU may be for real, but we just don't know yet. Will obviously know more after the MSU game.

Yup. Was thinking about that this morning. Because of the size of the CAA AND Big Sky now, there could be a lot of 9-2 and 8-3 teams.

OK, this is the earliest I've ever done this, but I'm not really predicting, just listing which teams are most likely going to get to 8-3 or better (and be legit). The biggest mess IMO is the SoCon. El Cid really effed things up by beating GSU and AppSt and then losing to Chatty. :ohno: The GSU/AppSt game will most likely be for one of them to get to 8-3, the other ends 7-4.

That leaves 22 teams already with an auto or 8-3+ record and as many as 24 with a potential claim:

Big Sky: MSU, CP, NAU, EWU
CAA: ODU, TU, JMU, UNH, UD
MVFC: NDSU, ISU, YSU, SDSU
SoCon: Wofford, El Cid, AppSt/GSU
Southland: one team will be 8-3 or better
OVC: EKU, TSU*
Patriot: LU/LC winner*
MEAC: auto only
Big South: auto only
NEC: auto only

*Spoilers: Tennessee State loses to EKU but goes 10-1, Lehigh loses to Lafayette but goes 10-1

It will take quite a bit for a 7-4 team to make the field this year.

Did you factor in the DII games? I'm assuming that your 8-3 = 7-3 vs. DI (UD for example), meaning that 7 DI wins with 3 losses will get you in but 7 DI wins and 4 losses may be trouble?

No doubt if UD is 8-3 and is being compared to another 8-3 with all DI wins that hurts them. But an 8-3 UD > 7-4 anyone.

This is a point I make to the rare knucklehead EWU fan(s) who support scheduling into the abyss with multiple FBS games on the road. 7-4 is always going to be a coin-toss. 8-3 is pretty much ALWAYS going to get you into the playoffs. Since the playoffs expanded to 16, only once in history has an 8-3 Big Sky team not gotten in, and that is when there were only 16 entrants.

More importantly, and 8-3 team with a D-II win is still going to look a lot more credible than a 7-4 with an additional loss, even if that additional loss was to an FBS team--- assuming we're talking about power FCS conferences like Big Sky, CAA, SoCon, MVC.

Fortunately EWU and NAU both won one of their I-A games. But's that is more the exception than the rule. UD has decided to not only to drop their DII game, but to also stop scheduling any I-A's in 11 game years. For most teams, they need one I-A game to make ends meet. If you can get over 16-17k for a home game, you don't need to.

We certainly don't need to do it financially, but I enjoy seeing us play regional FBS teams like the UWs. Flying across the country to get stomped by UT, not so much.

Funny how you idiots have NDSU over EWU, last time I saw EWU & NDSU play. EWU won, AND THEY BOTH HAD CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER TEAMS.

According to the Dead Milkmen song, he prefers pogo sticks.

Oh, and the Big Sky is pretty good this year. Better than it's been in a while. It looks like 3-4 teams may get playoff bids. But I don't know if the overall improvement is enough to say it's the best conference top to bottom. I'm calling that a stretch. Does NAU have their mid/late season stumble? WSU is down this year. ISU, UNC and UC Davis are showing some signs of life but certainly aren't ready to conquer the world. Lots of question marks and lots of games to go.
