Perhaps something along these lines:

"Attacks on US sovreign property will not be tolerated. The murder of US citizens acting in an official capacity will not be tolerated. We will hunt down the indivduals and/or groups responsible for this outrage and kill them. We hold the governments of the countries who allowed this to happen responsible and hereby put them on notice that they are to secure these areas immediately and turn over the murderers to us immediately because if we have to come do it it will be harsh, fast, and brutal.

We will not apologize for a US citizen exercising his freedom of speech, regardless of whether it is foolish or not and regardless of whether some terrorist thug likes it or not. There is no excuse for murder of a diplomatic official in any instance. This behavior will not be tolerated and the perpertrator will be brought to justice and face the full force and anger of the american people.

God bless the victims and God bless America."

Yes, the Cairo embassy, in an effort to difuse the attacks, did condemn both the violence and the film. This was not an official State Department response.

What should be troubling to everyone is Romney's response to it - on top of his blunders in Europe and Israel, shows how clearly unfit he is to lead the nation.

Initiate a disproportionately brutal response. When a U.S. Ambassador is murdered, many people have to die. Their innocence or guilt is not terribly relevant.
We really don't like it when others use that tactic...
Shouldn't we hold ourselves to a slightly higher standard..?

Romney's unfit? What about Obama's fitness? Let's see, our embassies in Egypt and Libya are caught unprepared to deal with an Iran-like invasion scenario, Israel's head of state (who's facing explicit threats of annihilation) can't get onto Obama's calendar to coordinate a response to an imminent war threat, and Syria continues to burn in part because we can't take a leadership role in formulating a forceful response (unlike the French-led EU overthrow in Libya) - and that's just Obama's foreign policy record since the DNC.

As they say, the record is clear...

You can say now that it was not an "official" State Department response, but to most people, it was a US embassy making a very public statement and no one in the State Department or the White House disavowed it until after the attacks happened. For better or for worse, it was the only US-issued statement in the lead up to the violence that happened.

As for Romney, he may or may not be the guy to lead, but I don't think this shows anything one way or the other. We should be questioning why that statement from Cairo was made in the first place and why it was allowed to hang out there for as long as it did. Hillary's response should've been the party line but it came pretty late. We got caught unprepared for all of this in two different capitals, on the anniversary of 9/11 to top it off. And now there's speculation that this was a planned attack. There are going to be questions over how we were seemingly unprepared for Arab unrest on the anniversary of 9/11. Ambassadors don't get killed everyday, so this is a pretty big deal.

Obama has done very well in the foreign policy arena, unlike the bumbling Republicans we have had.

Syria? You want us to invade? Start a war with RUSSIA and CHINA?
Israell? Netayahoo thinks he can control US foreign policy and get the US to bomb Iran - not gonna happen.
Iran like? Biiiiggg stretch there.

But yet you all still worship at the alter of Reagone, who let 200+ US Marines get killed, then hightailed it out of Lebanon with zero response.

Many successes:
His successful personal effort to insult the head of state and prime minister of America’s closest ally (as well as removing the bust of its wartime prime minister from the Oval Office); his successful personal effort to put daylight between the U.S. and Israel; his successful effort to ostracize Honduras for enforcing its constitution against a Hugo Chavez wannabe; his successful effort to become the first U.S. president to chair a UN meeting; his successful effort to ignore the efforts of Iranian citizens protesting the stolen 2009 presidential election and then ignore seriatim deadlines for Iran to accept his outstretched hand; his successful efforts to oppose Congressional attempts to strengthen Iran sanctions, while touting each round of non-crippling sanctions as the “toughest ever”; his successful effort to ward off pressure to visit Israel from liberal Israeli columnists, Jewish Democrats in Congress, and friendly rabbis; his successful effort to jettison a U.S. ally in Egypt and reportedly invite the new Pharaoh to the U.S.; his successful effort to set a Guinness Record for golf games by a wartime commander-in-chief; his successful effort to delay executing an already-negotiated free trade agreement with the closest U.S. ally in Latin America; his successful effort to improve relations with Mexico by suing Arizona on its behalf; his successful effort to build a knee-slapping relationship with Dmitri Medvedev to deliver a deferred flexibility message to Vladimir; and his winning a Nobel Peace Prize for not being Bush.

This is a disgrace, obviously they want us to elect Mitt Romney and begin bombing them into a real apology, I doubt if simply whipping themselves on the back will bring true repentance. It is obvious now Romney picked the wrong running mate over Sarah Palin, a true Christian Soldier willing to personally take it to those camel humping, wipe their asses with their bare left hand, hairy, stinky people...
