Have FCS wins over FBS teams become "routine"?
Four more today. Illinois State, NDSU, Sac State and now NAU. Granted they weren't playing Michigan or LSU, but it still seems to be coming more and more common....

I'll bet by the end of the year the FBS has about a .900 win%....yet again, just like almost every other year.

Depends on whether you want to count Georgia State as FBS (first-year transitional). The CAA will likely get at least 7 wins against them, and they already got whipped by SCSU.clenz wrote:I'll bet by the end of the year the FBS has about a .900 win%....yet again, just like almost every other year.

Just interesting that the BSC already has three....and it just doesn't seem to generate the kind of press it used to...clenz wrote:I'll bet by the end of the year the FBS has about a .900 win%....yet again, just like almost every other year.

just like D2 teams transitioning to FCS don't count as "division I wins" as far as playoff consideration until after their second provisional year (I think)

No, but first-year FCS transitionals do count as DI opponents for DII teams.JayJ79 wrote:no, they don't count.Mvemjsunpx wrote:

And, an FCS win over an FBS doesn't have an official designation I don't believe (other than it being a DI win) and doesn't have any specific properties that separate it from FCS wins other than notoriety. So we can count it however we want to I suppose.

Good jobs by the winners . . .
But to answer the question: No
When it is all said and done, this year will be as others. The FCS V. FBS winning percentage will be around *7* for the Good Guys.

Doesn't surprise me one bit ,the Big Ten is overrated.Penn St.,Purdue,Wisconsin,Iowa, and Nebraska all lost but Michigan was victorious over Air Force by less than a TD.Most MAC teams would have a rough time with MVFC teams but still a great win for Illinois StateJALMOND wrote:What I know on this...

No. Referring to the Phile Steele mag, 2011:AZGrizFan wrote:Four more today. Illinois State, NDSU, Sac State and now NAU. Granted they weren't playing Michigan or LSU, but it still seems to be coming more and more common....
Big Sky 1-11
Big South 0-9
CAA 1-9
Great West 1-4
Independent 0-3
MVFC 2-8
MEAC 0-8
OVC 0-10
Patriot 0-2
S0Con 0-9
Southland 1-10
SWAC 0-2
Total 6-84.
Historical avg is I-A wins about 90% of these games. Last yr they they won about 93%. My guess is this yr will win about 90% of these games. Steele shows 105 of them this yr.

Re: Have FCS wins over FBS teams become "routine"?
Agreed. So far this looking at the week 1 and 2 results yr I'm counting (without counting any of the transitionals) that the I-A vs I-AA rcord is 47-8, winning about 85% of their games.clenz wrote:I'll bet by the end of the year the FBS has about a .900 win%....yet again, just like almost every other year.
The Big Sky has played an inordinate amount of games against I-A (counting 14 so far) and has won 3 of them, when in a normal year would have won 1-2.

Re: Have FCS wins over FBS teams become "routine"?
Does anyone have a complete roll-up of this season's FCS vs. FBS wins so far? These are the ones I am tracking, but I think there's more:
EWU d. Idaho
McNeese d. Mid Tenn
Youngstown St. d. Pitt
Sac St d. Colorado
NAU d. UNLV
Ill St. d. E. Michigan
NDSU d. CSU
Any others?

Re: Have FCS wins over FBS teams become "routine"?
With all do, EMU should really drop down to FCS. They are just plain bad. And God bless em, I'll pull for them to win every time they play except when they play my Wolverines. But they just don't belong in the big time ranks.
IMO, only FCS teams that have had a winning record over a 3 year period should be aloud to play FBS teams. What's happening with Savannah State is just a shame.

Re: Have FCS wins over FBS teams become "routine"?
Yes, but FCS wins over FBS teams have become "routine" in that they occur every year. Also FCS wins over BCS league teams. There has only been one year since the BCS system started in 1998 that it hasn't happened at least once.clenz wrote:I'll bet by the end of the year the FBS has about a .900 win%....yet again, just like almost every other year.
Also there is overlap between the subdivisions. While it's true that the overall winning rate for I-A/FBS has been around 90% the rate for games against "top" I-AA/FCS teams, however that is reasonably defined, is much lower. North Dakota State, for instance, now has a 6-3 record against I-A/FBS teams since moving from Division II as well as a 3-2 record against BCS league teams.
The Southland still has a winning record head to head against the Sun Belt. It depends on who plays who. You're not going to see a FCS team beat Alabama or USC. But if you've got North Dakota State playing Colorado State...well...you know the rest.
