Don't do as we do . . .
I'm of the opinion that the inmates should run the asylum in cases such as these, led by the Seniors. If the policy was *truly* any 2 of the first 4 games, I would tend to to get it over with and move on ... but I don't think the inmates look at it that way.
The inmates are caught up in the game just like the fans. It's a big deal to them, too. Players want to put on their best show in big games like this. Coaches don't really see it 100% that way (Example: CM has always stressed winning the SoCon). Remember: It's still the second week of September and we all have a lot of season left.
With the players making the call, they also take ownership. They are the Cops on the beat. It's is their responsibility to
seriously impact the thinking of the offendee(s), encourage them to take advantage of the special opportunity provided to them, let them know the seriousness of the violation to the team, and how they let the team down. Coaches may simply serve as advisers to insure consistency.
No doubt, with Middleton out for the season we needed a another warm-bodied DB (not so much against El Cid next week). I'm also glad you guys will get a chance to see Sean Price -- he is likely to be a royal pain to our opponents for the next 4 years if he keeps his head on straight.
And ... as you guys have noted - not knowing the infraction(s) makes it an even tougher call.
