They still had 97k fans, which was 3rd best in FBS this past weekend behind only Ohio State and Texas. The issue at Penn State is that many of the more expensive seats (which require donations to purchase season tickets) are empty. There is still good demand for the cheaper tickets. I agree that attendance will suffer if they continue the current policies, but if these seats are opened up and sold at a reasonable price attendance will remain strong.bluehenbillk wrote:No big deal, there were 10,000 people disguised as empty seats at Beaver Stadium this week.
By the end of the season it will be 25,000
2013, 2014, the place will be just over half full.

Re: Sweet Caroline banned......Oh really?
The stadium was mostly full. A patch of seats under the press box, which require a large donation, were empty. These seats were often empty last year as well and they cost the same as seats which are much lower and better. The seats would be filled if priced properly. 10k empty seats, or less than 10% of total capacity, was visually believable. It is possible there were "only" 95k there as 2k people may not have made their way to the game.clenz wrote:97 announced...i doubt 97 were there

Well you would be wrong again.

Franks is correct - the announced figure seems pretty accurate.

Franks would sell his children if it made Penn State look good.

Clenz has made many blanket anti-PSU statements, and he is just wrong here. I fully expect attendance to drop off, especially when they get to the meat of the boring Big 10 scedule in cold weather. PSU fans don't really get excited to see the likes of Indiana, Purdue and Illinois and when the weather isn't great and the team is struggling.
Last year PSU went to a new season ticket model that basically requires PSL's. As a result, even last year, they had some of the most poorly attended home games in many years. I know many people who were looking for the cheap tickets and they were pretty much sold out. The higher priced tickets have been somewhat slow sellers, even before the scandal. If attendance drops significantly they will hopefully re-think the pricing model, and people will fill the place up with reasonable prices.

I'm watching the replay of yesterdays PSU game....Attendance is listed at 93,680, and I'd bet they greatly over stated (taken from what I've read on PSU sites/twitter) and from the angles I'm seeing. Smallest announced crowd since 2001. By the end of the season they might not hit 70k butts in seats....by year 3 they might not be at 50k

Again the main reason behind the empty seats would be the PSL's introduced before the start of last year. Those empty seats you see near the top of the stadium require a $400 payment before the cost of tickets. Attendance was suffering last year before the scandal broke due to the new costs.clenz wrote:I'm watching the replay of yesterdays PSU game....Attendance is listed at 93,680, and I'd bet they greatly over stated (taken from what I've read on PSU sites/twitter) and from the angles I'm seeing. The scandal will no doubt have some sort of impact on attedance but 50k won't happen. I believe they will adjust the cost of the PSL's next year or the year after, and attendance will still be above 90k. BTY very few stadiums even hold 90k to begin with so attendance is still pretty damm good.

Just everything you write about PSU. A while back you claimed that Paterno covered up for crimes committed by his players, which is patently false. When I pointed this out you disappeared from the thread.clenz wrote:Please find these blanket anti-psu statements ****
