Chris Christie... Tough guy, straight shooter
Chris Christie successfully cut taxes in New Jersey - yet - increased New Jersey state tax revenue..?
How is this possible you ask..?
http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2 ... ns_an.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2 ... christies/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here are the facts:
The 16,122 families in New Jersey earning more than $1 million will get an average tax break of $40,000 apiece under this budget. At the same time those working for minimum wage will pay $300 more in state taxes annually...
So it's a NET GAIN in Tax revenue
But he can say: I cut taxes when he speaks publicly - and be telling the truth (kind of)

Re: Chris Christie... Tough guy, straight shooter
What the article fails to mention is exactly how MUCH those 16,122 families ARE paying into the system....
And in reading the comments, it appears the "tax cut" is really just a non-continuation of a millionaire's tax that sunsetted....but don't let facts get in the way of a good hangin'...

An editorial from a left-wing newspaper and Rick Ungar (writing from the left on politics and policy). You can't make this shit up...well maybe they did since they didn't supply any sources.
However, find me a "working mom" who "makes minimum wage" and has to pay state or federal income taxes, and I'll show you someone who doesn't make minimum wage.

Re: Chris Christie... Tough guy, straight shooter
Sorry fellas. I moved out of NJ a month ago and no longer spend 3 seconds thinking about Chris Christie or the f'ed up NJ budget.
I still own a house in NJ (unless you know someone that wants to buy a 900 sq ft cape at $344 sq/ft) so I'm sure I'll pay for this somehow in my real estate taxes.
Shit rolls downhill in NJ as much as anywhere else. And it all rolls down into our real estate taxes.

If you make minimum wage you do not pay income taxes with the available credits.

NJ is decoupled from the Federal Income Tax code.CID1990 wrote:You mean that there is actually a state out there that does not follow the Federal exemption?Chizzang wrote:

No standard deduction.
No itemized deductions (e.g. no mortgage interest deduction)
No federal exemptions.
You get $1000 as a standard exemption for each of yourself, spouse (including domestic partners) and dependents.
You do, however, get a credit for other state taxes paid (i.e., NY) unlike some other states like Connecticut.

Re: Chris Christie... Tough guy, straight shooter
Being very liberal with the numbers here. If you make minimum wage in NJ, you make 15,080 with no overtime, and that assumes you work 52 x 40 hour weeks. At that level, your annual tax is 196 with the 1000 dollar exemption.danefan wrote:NJ is decoupled from the Federal Income Tax code.CID1990 wrote:

NJ just voted to raise the minimum wage which using the same math will bring the annual tax to 210 dollars.
So I stand corrected, NJ residents who make minimum wage pay state income taxes of 196 dollars in 2011. That is without calculating any adjustments or credits.
What a shame that Gov Christie is doubling those peoples' out of pocket with nary a political consequence. I wonder how Christie is convincing those poor dumb minimum wagers that the check they will cut this year is not twice as big as last year's?

but that is just shameful and he sells it as "lowering Taxes"

I fail to see how he gets away with taking someone who, at most, was paying less than 200 bucks a year, and then suddenly has them paying almost 500 (you said he raised them by 300 bucks for a minimum wage earner).Chizzang wrote:CID1990 wrote:

If this is truly the case, then yeah, it's despicable. BUT the numbers alone make me very skeptical. Makes my BS meter go up. Lookit, I'm conservative as hell but that doesn't mean the GOP gets a free pass from me. If I wanted to just rubber stamp them with hyperbole like Houndawg likes to do with the left then I wouldn't have pulled up the tax tables and my abacus.
If this isn't an exaggeration and Christie really raised their base tax rate by more than 150 percent (which is what is being alleged) then if they dont vote his a$$ out... well then I think they deserve getting it up the greasy starfish if they are that damn disconnected. Hell they don't even need voter ID in NJ. All they need to do is go down to the local Dem party office, get registered as 20 different dead people and then vote their a$$es off.
I'm not buying it, and sh1t you should dig a little further too Cleets. Surprised at you, boy.
