Are they even going to let Biden speak?

They fucked up the NFL's first game. Bunch of douches. They should have their shit on Wednesday so the season can start on Thursday...93henfan wrote:I don't plan to watch, so please let me know what happens.

Re: DNC Speeches
I heard this morning that Michelle's speech was a homerun. I watched maybe 30 seconds of it and it's clear that they actually don't think they are socialists.

Look, I'm all for individuals choosing to do that on their own volition, but I'm NOT in favor of the government taking what you've worked for and giving it to others who maybe haven't. The Obamas do not share that view. And he believes that when you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity…you do not slam it shut behind you…you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed

Re: DNC Speeches
Interesting since the quote is spoken in the context of an individual; which makes it more intriguing since 'progressives' loathe individualism.89Hen wrote:I heard this morning that Michelle's speech was a homerun. So socialism now also = generosity and niceness. Man you guys need to come up with a clear definition.89Hen wrote:I heard this morning that Michelle's speech was a homerun. I watched maybe 30 seconds of it and it's clear that they actually don't think they are socialists.

I'm reading the transcript now and her speech was filled with statements that try to break down their views to flowery, simplistic terms that sound great if you don't know what she's really getting at.kalm wrote:So socialism now also = generosity and niceness. .We learned about gratitude and humility – that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean…and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect
Obviously directed at "you didn't build that". Of course you treat eveyone with respect, but a janitor had a hand in my success at school? Did that same janitor have a hand in Joe Shlabodnik's failing out of school?

Its the we vs. me society philosophy. It will be interesting to see who wins that argument..who a majority of Americans identify more with.89Hen wrote:I'm reading the transcript now and her speech was filled with statements that try to break down their views to flowery, simplistic terms that sound great if you don't know what she's really getting at.kalm wrote:

Re: DNC Speeches
I'll paraphrase what I read this morning, but I liked how it was said that they aren't trying to be divisive, but that Romney was born a child of privilege. If you swing a dead cat in any room full of Congressmen 95% of what you hit will be children of privilege. Portraying Obama as an everyman is a pretty tall order. Based on the speeches from our nutrition and exercise first lady and Julian Castro they seem to have different messages on separating the haves from the have nots.....keep in mind Castro is a Stanford undergrad and a Harvard law grad, just like the rest of us.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162- ... ?tag=stack" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;San Antonio mayor Julian Castro, who was plucked from relative obscurity to give the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention, on Tuesday assailed Mitt Romney as a son of privilege who does not understand that many Americans can't rely on their families to help them succeed.
"Mitt Romney, quite simply, doesn't get it," said the 37-year-old Castro. "A few months ago he visited a university in Ohio and gave the students there a little entrepreneurial advice. 'Start a business,' he said. But how? 'Borrow money if you have to from your parents,' he told them. Gee, why didn't I think of that?"
"Some people are lucky enough to borrow money from their parents, but that shouldn't determine whether you can pursue your dreams," continued Castro. "Not in American, not here, not in the 21st century. I don't think Governor Romney meant any harm. I think he's a good guy. He just has no idea how good he's had it."
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/mic ... EdSgdaPW5I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Mrs. Obama never mentioned Mitt Romney's name, but gave a clear rebuttal to Republicans who claim that Obama has tried to demonize Romney's wealth.
"They didn't begrudge anyone else's success or care that others had much more than they did. In fact, they admired it," Mrs. Obama said.
She also had a subtle dig at Romney and the Republicans saying her husband "believes that when you've worked hard and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you."

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/48907952While publicly pledging to refuse corporate money, the official host committee for this week’s Democratic National Convention has quietly and aggressively courted corporate donors — using a sister nonprofit that has been offering firms special “sponsorship opportunities” if they ponied up $1 million or more to help cover the costs of the event.
A 13-page marketing brochure obtained by NBC News shows how New American City, a nonprofit that is closely affiliated with the official Democratic convention host committee, offered package deals to corporate contributors — with different benefits starting at levels of $100,000 and escalating to the top “Tryon Street Level” of $1 million.
FORWARD, CHANGE!

Interesting that the donks had grandiose plans to fill 74k Bank of America stadium. When it became clear they weren't going to come close to filling it they moved it to a 20k capacity Time Warner Cable arena, coming up with a convenient excuse of bad weather.

Anybody who knows anything about south side Charlotte knows that there are some real simple ways to fill those seats. There are 60k people who would gladly come yell and scream in favor of class warfare and gummint cheese within walking distance of BoA Stadium.
Somehow I don't think they want "those people" on camera at their party. Not exactly the types the Harvard liberals like to associate with. They'll talk a big game, but the DNC is as much a country club as Burning Tree or Augusta National.
