Souers has 3 trips to the playoffs, not 1.

I'm neither in "the know" nor do I still live in Flagstaff and follow Lumberjacks sports as closely as I used to. That being said, my wild guess to Blackfalkin's inquiry is, "because NAU's players graduate and stay out of trouble/headlines, unlike what occurred under his coaching predecessor."

Last THursday in Tempe had to be about the worst ass-whipping in my memory as a Lumberjacks fan. Get beat by 8 touchdowns on national tv and lose the starting qb to a knee injury and Payton Award nominee running back, Zach Bauman to a head injury (had to ge a concussion...he looked punch drunk coming off the field). Things can't get much worse than that. I've read no further word on eithers injury or availability for next Saturday yet. Hard to say NAU has much of a chance vs. UNLV after such a rough performance vs. ASU. Even harder without Grossart or Bauman playing.

Yet, here I am continuing to follow and support the Lumberjacks. Being a fan is like being in a bad relationship. You know you should quit but you just can't. Looking forward to Las Vegas. Go Jacks!

Wasn't there an NAU fan here not long ago talking about how great NAU was going to be this year, and how they'd probably beat ASU, would whip UNLV, and finish top two in big sky, and that the years of finishing 5-6 pr 6-5 were over?

Ya I am one of those"NAU FANS" that was boasting about the team. It was a complete ass whooping and certainly not what any fan. player or coach expected. Giving ASU their props they are good and fast and athletic and disciplined but we didn't even show up. Embarassing. The leadership on the team was embarassed. They were back on their heels all night. Everyone who follows this team closely was shocked.

That being said I am going to wait until the UNLV game to pass judgement. I still believe in this team and the talent they have. This will be a true defining moment for their season and the coaching staff.

Bauman and Grossert will play.

They have a new AD and she is fantastic. They have sold more season tickets then any other year. There have been some real changes except on the field. The UNLV will tell alot about the character and future of this team.

Wasn't there a Michigan fan on here not long ago talking about how great Michigan was gong to be this year, and how they'd probably beat Alabama, finish in the top two in the Big 10 and win their bowl game? :coffee:

Soooooo....

In other words, it's all blind faith at this point.

This is my exact concern about playing 2 FBS programs. Nothing worse than seeing a key player go down in a money game...nothing worse... :ohno:

Yup, that same blind faith Griz fans had going into this season after replacing their head coach, starting quarterback, the bulk of your defense and dealing with more sadness/bullshit/drama than a Griz team has ever dealt with over the course of an offseason. That blind faith that every team has going into a new season.

The Griz started out at home (a decided advantage) playing a USD team starting close to from scratch and looked good at times and haphazard at others. If the Griz opened on the road vs. ASU, the results would have been different. I've seen a lot of ASU games over the years and that was the most committed, focused early season Sundevils team I've ever seen. Their team speed was close to the best I've ever seen as well. Whether that continues against the Oregons, USCs and Stanfords of the league remains to be seen but I tip my cap to ASU for that display.

NAU had their asses handed to em. No doubt. But one game makes not a season. Onward to Las Vegas and a trip to UNLV.

Thanks for the scoop and enthusiasm, JackParty. Last Thursday made it tough to have an optimistic outlook. I hope you are right about Bauman and Grossart playing but I also hope neither of them rush back if they aren't truly ready. Head injuries are not a trifle.

When your team averages 10+ wins per season over a decade plus, despite multiple coaching changes, personnel changes, and other random shit, thinking they'll be good again isn't exactly blind faith no matter how much you want it to be. :coffee:
