I think the President should explain to the American people why we are still in Afghanistan and what is the desired outcome.

My guess is that the goal is to train the Afghan's to defend themselves from the Taliban, so that the Taliban doesn't return to power once we leave (I think we're planning on getting out in 2014). I have my doubts that this will work, but I'm pretty sure the Taliban wins if we pull out now.

I also think the GOP is on board with this plan, which is why Romney isn't making an issue of it.

Change.

AQ is no real threat in Affy...the Taliban don't want Arabs ruling them.

The only reason AQ is still in Affy and Pakistan is that WE are in Affy and the Taliban needed weapons and AQ's funding and training. As soon as we leave, the Taliban will likely kick out any remaining AQ influence and go back to running their country.

But wait, won't a fundamentalist Muslim country attack the U.S. again? Anyone who thinks that AQ will be allowed to expand their operations in Affy, or that the Taliban will threaten our future, is as dumb as the people who thought the Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Vietnamese would be planning the downfall of the U.S after we left.

Training the Affys to defend themselves. Didn't we do that 20 years ago when the Russians were there?

Am I reading this correctly? Is McCain saying that we shouldn't be getting out of Afghanistan?

This year, McCain was here in a different capacity – as Mitt Romney’s chief foreign policy attack dog, leveling harsh criticism of President Obama, the man who defeated him in 2008.

He casually charged that because of withdrawing from Afghanistan, “the president discourages our friends and emboldens our enemies.”

Who the fvck cares what McCain thinks? Has he been calling the shots over the past four years? WTF is this, 2008...vote for me because the other guy might be worse than me!

Hey, I'm a stupid teenage girl who dates Dopey, a hyper-aggressive, lying sack of shvt who claims he is different and that he cares about me. Well, I'm so smart because I am not dating Dopey II because I think he might be worse. :dunce:

Anyone who votes for Obama is stuck on stupid. End of story. The problem with most everyone is the problem with most everyone...what is in it for me today. That is why most people aren't successful...too narrow minded and with little ability to think long-term.

Churn the incumbents out...period...until the cesspool is cleared of lifetime politicians. That is the only hope for change.

McCain gave this speech at the 2012 GOP convention. I doubt he would have made those comments if Romney wasn't on board.

I assume that you aren't voting for either Obama or Romney. Me neither.

Unlike President Obama, who has declared American troops will end combat operations by late 2014, Romney has rejected setting any date for ending the war.

"It's unthinkable that you say: 'Here's the date we're gonna leave, regardless of the circumstances,'" Romney said in March.

sounds like all elections. :kisswink:

As I see it, there are only 3 choices for president:

Ron Paul
Gary Johnson
Bryan Cranston

Can't go wrong with any of them. :thumb:

As for oil I don't see the parallel. The world is awash in crude oil.
The world RUNS on crude oil. It doesn't run on these "rare" metals. Your hypocrisy is astounding, honestly.

So you'd accept a public appeal for a war to get the "rare metals", but not a defacto war for oil?
Isn't that how it's supposed to work? The Pres. makes his case and Congress decides whether or not to declare war?

We weren't tricked into going into Afghanistan. We went in as a result of 9/11. I think the President should explain why we are still there, and Romney should also clarfiy his position. Obama has agreed to a 2014 pull out, and many in the GOP are criticizing him for having a deadline.

I realize that the economy is the big topic in this election, but it would be nice to know exactly where both candidates stand on Afghanistan. Especially Romney, will he adhere to the 2014 timetable? Or will he commit troops beyond that?

1 - We were tricked into going into Iraq.

2- We allegedly went into Afghanistan to get bin Laden.

3 - McCain was beaten like a snare drum about the head and shoulders every day for five or six years, that's why he sounds like cluck u when he opines and why nobody takes him seriously.

Nobody seems to have yet made the connection between the shape our economy is in and the cost of two wars halfway around the world. :coffee:

1. Agreed, which is why I specifically mentioned Afghanistan in my post. I was never on board with going into Iraq.

2. Agree again, although I think if we pull out now the Taliban will come back into power and give al-qaeda free reign to use the mountains of Afghanstan and Pakistan as a base of operations. Getting bin Laden wasn't enough, some else will just take over. This is why I think we are still there and what I think Obama needs to explain.

3. It wasn't just McCain; Condy Rice and Romney have also criticzed Obama for being weak on Afghanstan. It sounds like they think we should do more and stay longer if needed. That's why I think they should clearly outline their position. Also, McCain isn't Clint Eastwood, he wasn't going to be allowed to ad lib his speech. No doubt his speech was checked and approved before he gave it. No way he'd be saying what he did if Romney wasn't okay with it. Cluck may not care what McCain has to say, but the GOP cared enough to let him speak at their convention.

1) If we were tricked into getting into Afghanistan, then what have we gotten out of Iraq that we haven't gotten out of Afghanistan? And how "out" of Iraq are we? :suspicious:

2) If we went into Afghanistan to get Bin Laden, then why are we still in Afghanistan?

He's dead, and our own estimates from a year ago say that AQ doesn't have a big presence in Afghanistan. Why have we been tricked into staying in Afghanistan? Please don't give me that crap you regurgitated about the "recent" precious metals "discovery"...you've already been proven a fool over that information. Yeah, U.S. Geologist, working DIRECTLY with Pentagon funding, and working DIRECTLY under military supervision (flown in by Blackhawks with heavily armed military escorts), are going to release a "real time" story directly to the public...a story about a trillion gazillion bucks worth of precious metals. :dunce:

3) McCain is smarter than you'll ever be...maybe your parents beat you worse than a prisoner.

You are suggesting that our wars are hurting our economy, but you'd consider authorizing a war in Affy to get to some precious metals. :dunce: Yeah, nothing says, "I'm a genius!" more than waging a war within a land locked country bordering Iran, China, Pakistan, and some old Russian republics.

And you seem to have forgotten that we're in more than 2 wars half-way around the world. Obushma, your hero, has us involved in more than that (at the taxpayers expense...but he really is different, and he cares about you working class people, houndawg  ).

Please cite some sources about how the Taliban will give AQ free reign in Afghanistan. You seem to be stuck on this point enough to post it twice. I'm curious as to what is influencing you to think that way.

As to your third point, please explain, if you believe your second point above, why 2014 is acceptable to Obama and yourself as a withdrawal date. Will AQ just give up in 2014? Will the Taliban "suddenly" (wait for another houndawg, "this just in report" ) not want to be influenced by AQ in 2014? :suspicious:

Funny, if houndawg is correct about the impact of the precious metals, and you are correct about AQ's influence on the Taliban, then you both should be voting for Romney and the war hawks (the other ones) to protect us from the big, bad AQ Muslins and to protect our God given right to those precious metals. :thumb:

I don't know that for a fact. I'm guessing as to why we are in Afghanistan and that is what I have come up with - primarily because the Taliban wouldn't turn over bin Laden to us after 9/11. I could be wrong. That's why I have stated that I think Obama should tell us why we are still there.

I never said I thought 2014 was a suitable date, I never gave an opinion on it either way. Once again, I'm looking for clarification for the GOP here. Obama has picked 2014 and some in the GOP have criticized him for it. I'd like to know their plans.

At the moment I don't know enough about either candidates position of Afghanistan, so at the moment I will be basing my vote on other issues.

That's what I thought...you've retreated to saying nothing because your incredibly stupid "facts" were shoved up your azz. :thumb:

I'll ask you again...and I'll simplify it for you since you might have been too intimidated by the quantifying second sentence...we can always get back to that later.

If we were tricked into getting into Iraq, then what have we gotten out of Iraq that we haven't gotten out of Afghanistan?
These signatures have a 500 character limit?

What if I have more personalities than that?

The same reasons Obama overthrew Quadaffy, the same reasons he's bombing Pakistan, the same reasons he is sending arms and money to Syria, the same reasons he is in Uganda, the same reason he DIDN'T support the freedom fighters in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the same reason he allows Holder to stay in office...1) Obama has a massive ego and little intelligence 2) Obama doesn't give a shvt about the troops, he just wants to appear "tough" on bad guys - even invented bad guys 3) Obama is pandering to the military arms suppliers and big money.

CHANGE.

 You hit it with your third swing, like a blind kid with polio at a pinata. :thumb:

All wars are fought for money, cuck. :coffee:

I hit it on only the third try?

Wait, you mean to say that Obama cares about the troops...and that he doesn't want to appear tough on the bad guys? Please cite a reference where it indicates Obama cares about the troops...truly cares. You know, not like that Bush guy running with the soldier...because that didn't satisfy you. Go ahead, find something...

And you mean to say that Obama doesn't have a massive ego and that you think Obama is demonstrating intelligence with regard to our military actions in Afghanistan? Please cite some more credible references of such intelligence. I can't wait for the justifications of our war in Affy to start rolling in. :thumb:
