Next Stop on GOP Bad Rape Analogy Tour: Pennslyvania
MARK SCOLFORO, ASSOCIATED PRESS: How would you tell a daughter or a granddaughter who, God forbid, would be the victim of a rape, to keep the child against her own will? Do you have a way to explain that?
SMITH: I lived something similar to that with my own family. She chose life, and I commend her for that. She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn’t have to.. she chose they way I thought. No don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t rape.
SCOLFORO: Similar how?
SMITH: Uh, having a baby out of wedlock.
SCOLFORO: That’s similar to rape?
SMITH: No, no, no, but… put yourself in a father’s situation, yes. It is similar. But, back to the original, I’m pro-life, period.

The guy's a dope.
He is a farmer and coal miner who bought the mine eventually. I respect that he started a business, but he has no education and is in way over his head.
Casey is well liked and will wipe the floor with this guy.

My thoughts too. This is why Romney is in trouble, he needs to get the party on message. The message being the economy. Arguing about abortion plays right into the Dems hands.AZGrizFan wrote:My answer:

Romney needs a good convention, followed by two plus months of hammering Obama on the economy.

Really? THIS branch? He was asked a fucking question by the press. A "press", by the way, that votes 91% for the OTHER guy. So, who REALLY cares more about abortion? Or do they just care about ensuring they ask the right questions so "their" guy wins?dbackjon wrote:AZGrizFan wrote:My answer:

It's amazing the GOP can't find someone better to run in PA - Casey is only liked because people liked his father and he carries the name. Otherwise he comes off as one of the dumbest and blandest Senators out there. But the GOP has apparently found someone who is dumber and blander. I'm not sure if you add their IQ's together if you even get to triple digits.Franks Tanks wrote:The guy's a dope.

Re: Next Stop on GOP Bad Rape Analogy Tour: Pennslyvania
Jeez.
Any time someone wants to get a Republican off topic they just ask them about abortion. If they say they aren't going to answer and try to stay on topic they are accused of avoiding the subject. If they answer truthfully about their beliefs, then they are Neanderthals.
Single issue voters like Jon and HD are idiot shills. Nobody cares what you think except for the 2-3 friends that accompany you in your echo chambers. This country will go the way of Ireland but at least Wendy can hop on down to the abortion clinic so that her Neanderthal father won't think badly of her. Not a total loss I guess.
Here's a better question:
"What if you knew your kid was going to be a sh1tbot like Jon? Would you support an abortion then?"

It's not that they answered truthfully, it's that they answered poorly. It's no secret that they are pro-life. Comparing rape to having a baby out of wedlock and using the term "legitimate rape" are awkward responses. Smith was probably being baited my the reporter, I think you will see more of that over the next few weeks.CID1990 wrote:Jeez.

Re: Next Stop on GOP Bad Rape Analogy Tour: Pennslyvania
Why the desperation Jon? Obama should win easily, assuming the economy doesn't go any lower - so why all of your posts about rape and abortion? These guys don't much care for gays either, yet you're not bashing on them wrt gay marriage, probably because that's not as much of a hot-button issue with swing voters.dbackjon wrote:LMAO @ CID's lame attempt at deflection from the Morons in the Pube Party.
Fact is, this mindset is based on equating abortion with murder regardless of the cause of the pregnancy. If that's the case then yeah it's tough to put sufficient empathy for the mother into words, especially in front of TV cameras, but the underlying belief is that the unborn child shouldn't be a 2nd victim in all this.

Re: Next Stop on GOP Bad Rape Analogy Tour: Pennslyvania
Not silly. Corporations are not hiring because they are uncertain about what Obama and the rest of the Donk militia will do (corporate taxes, health care, etc.). Obama has corporate America in a run down. He and the rest of the Donks have underestimated the importance of "jobs". If people are employed and happy, the social agenda that the Donks want will be easier to push through. But since they pushed health care in year one, he can't grow jobs. And now he will lose the election and have his health care plan repealed. Thanks you fvckin' Donk morons. You wasted 4 years of our lives.houndawg wrote:Dow over 13K, corporate profits at all time highs. What is all this jive about the US being up against it financially?AZGrizFan wrote:My answer:

Me, I lament the fact that so many voters look at the economy as the top issue for different reasons in some respects and the same reason in others. I don't think people should be thinking of government as responsible for the ups and downs of the economy to begin with. To me, the idea that government is responsible for making sure each individual's material security is taken care of is at the root of the fundamental long terms problem. Plus I also think there are things that are more important than the economy.
And, yes, I do consider the abortion issue to be more important than the economy. In my opinion having a situation in which millions of innocents are being terminated every year is a little more important than worrying about whether the unemployment rate is 4% or 9%. If one considers abortion to be taking the life of an individual with a right to live but puts the economy at a higher priority one's priorities are out of order.
But there's no question that as a practical matter for a politician the economy is a more important issue because people have been conditioned by going on a century of a "government will take care of you" paradigm to think their personal comfort is of optimum importance and government is responsible for making sure they have it.
BTW, if you're wondering since I linked that video and the guy mentioned homosexual marriage: No I don't think that's all that important an issue. Not to me personally. I just object to the way people who are against it are demonized and browbeaten. Like that beauty contestant who just gave an honest answer to the question of whether or not there should be homosexual marriage and had all hell break loose on her. Or the Chick-Fil-A thing.

I completely agree with that statement. I just wish it wasn't the case. In addition to thinking that there are things that are just more intrinsically important than how the economy is doing, I think the obsession with what's happening in the moment with the economy causes us to do things that are not the best for the long term. Like panicking as we did after the 2008 disturbance and dramatically accelerating the pre-existing problem of going more and more into debt.Politically, nothing is more important than the economy.

When the economy is doing well, it is not a political issue. See Clinton's and W's second election. It is important to not completely derail the train. Sometimes, slowing it down or speeding it up is necessary. Obama and the Donks took a slowing train completely off the tracks with the health care bullshit. The timing for that could not have been any worse.JohnStOnge wrote:I completely agree with that statement. I just wish it wasn't the case. Agreed. Some of these idiots need to realize that they can't just say they are pro-life. They need to actually think about the justifications because reporters are going to try to get them to go into detail every time. So they can have their gotcha moments.BlueHen86 wrote:It's not that they answered truthfully, it's that they answered poorly. It's no secret that they are pro-life.
