I did not know the guy is a comedian. I am proud to say I do not recognize him. But I do not think I am missing the point. He may have been trying to be funny in one respect as it is his job. But my bet would be that what he said does reflect his own outlook. He thought he was being clever when he made the statement and he wasn't. He was exhibiting very shallow thinking.
You are missing the point. Comedians are trying to be funny, they aren't trying to be taken seriously. If you don't think he's funny that one thing, but to try and give a serious rebuttal to material that isn't intented to be taken seriously shows that you don't get it.

Jerry Seinfeld does a routine about widow socks hiding the dryer, I'm sure his outlook isn't that they are actually running away.

I doubt if Steven Wright really thinks his seashell collection is scattered across the beaches of the world, or that he'll go back in time if he puts instant coffee in the microwave.

I think the guy is missing the point. Yes there are certain things about the universe that are beautiful and one looks at them with wonder and there are other things that are unpleasant. But the point about "God" isn't about beauty or lack thereof. It's the complexity. It's looking at all those things...the planetary systems as well as the parasitic worms...and contemplating the likelihood that they could have arisen through random processes combined with the laws of physics. That's what makes you think there is an intelligence behind it.

People like this guy think they really have something. Think they've really come up with a "gotcha" statement or thought process. And they don't. They call themselves "free thinkers" but they're not. They constrain themselves by presuming the NON existence of God or whatever one calls it. They will not consider the existence of an intelligence behind what they see and thereby limit themselves. They are every bit as biased as the people who presume there is a God. Just in the other direction.

Missing the point is his signature lick, that and what the French call "enculer la mouche" which roughly translates to "fvcking a fly's azz".
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

How can one be constrained by the null hypothesis? As we all know, the non existence of a Christian God is the null hypothesis. Thus, in the absence of better data, for which there's none, you cannot be considered close minded for not having hope, belief or faith in the written accounts of bronze age nomads.

St. Onge, this is how you make a concise, succinct, convincing argument. Take notes. :coffee:

John doesn't actually understand "The Null Hypothesis" based on a huge percentage of his argument perspectives...
But he claims to understand the Bible and Christians, as he attends Fundamentalist Church every Sunday

In our culture, government is the opiate of the masses.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Amongst other types........."donations" distributed to the poor by non-taxed churches that prey on the undereducated and racist masses for votes to ensure the continuation of their political and economic power.

My grandmother is 105 (in July) and when she was a young girl the "church" took care of people, as in....(new to town, the poor, the downtrodden). Now the gov tries to take care of all of our needs. The people in my congregation of the church I go to are not, as you say...."undereducated and racist". In fact most have college degrees and are very successful. Money goes to help missionaries and poor children in other countries.

If I was in need of help I would go to my church or other religious organization....not the local welfare office.... :tothehand:

You and many others on here are anti-religion and that is fine with me. I'll have a civil conversation with anyone but it seems like the direction the conversation goes is one where the person that has positive religious views is called names and is belittled.

Tell your churches to mind their own business and all will be OK.

How does a church infringe upon your rights?

If a Jehovah's Witness comes to your door....tell them you are not interested....like I do. Usually I start to tell them my Christianity and they just give me their literature and hurry away... :thumb:
