But dammit, I had a good reason to do so. I must bend the will of the world towards my warped way of thinking...it's the only way out. Mediocrity and low expectations for everyone!

Quite the opposite. Success and high expectations for everyone!Cluck U wrote:Wait, I lied.Cluck U wrote:

You don't know me.
You obviously think I have a shitty life based solely on one thing I said that happened years ago.
Life's not perfect, but my "Christmas letter" version ain't too shabby.![]()
"Obviously?"![]()
Tod, the ONLY point you made was that you proved you will lie in order to try to get people to see your warped view of the world. Congrats...you proved you're a tit sucking scumbag.![]()
Your list is fluff...and it doesn't matter if any of that stuff is true or not. But you don't see that.
It doesn't matter what excuses you, or anyone else, come up with to explain your expectation that other people should give your daughter more of other people's money in order to deal with her mistake. Welfare isn't broken because it doesn't give enough money or has, in your mind, bad cut-off levels for income restrictions. Welfare is broken because of people like you who expect it to be all peachy and perfect for losers. Where's the cut off, Tod...a new car, a modern house that has all utilities paid, private school tuition for the bastard child until mommy gets her PhD?![]()
It is a bottom safety net, designed to pay a minimum. That's it. If you think she needed more money, than YOU should have provided her with more of YOUR money instead of insisting that she get more of OTHER PEOPLE's money.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, so we know where she got her low expectations.

The point is that the idea that people will suffer horrible personal consequences if government doesn't do "X" can go on ad infinitum and should not be viewed as a justification for government doing something.I don't think it needs to stop at all. It's the truth. Obamacare will save lives.

We could say that "it would save lives" if we ensured that everyone gets a quarterly full body scan MRI. If not that something else. We could always think of something more government could do "to save lives."
No. Government should set the general atmosphere and infrastructure so that you and/or those close to you have some reasonable opportunity to "save" your life. It cannot possibly do everything anybody can possibly think of that "will save lives." Nor should it be trying to.
BTW, no lives are ever saved. They are only extended. The death rate, again, is 100%.

That fireman wasn't a representative of the federal government.kalm wrote:I once saw a fireman pull a baby kitty from a burning building.JohnStOnge wrote:

There have been 8 guys working on a 8x8 section of a street around the corner from me for 11 days (Monday will be 12). In those 11 days all they have gotten done is get the hole opened up and do some prodding at the pipes under the road....I asked them when they'd have it done on Friday - they weren't busy as they were doing what they do best, standing the fuck around - and they said about another week. When asked what they were doing they replied "replacing a small section of pipe".Gil Dobie wrote:Unions have a purpose, but some have spun out of control. Same situation with the street crews in St Paul. 1 guy works, 5 guys stand around waiting for their turn for their specific duty. Same crew on the street for 8 days. My Sister-in-law works for the city and one Brother-in-law works for the power company, one at an oil refinery and another as an electrican. Lot of crazy union stories at family get-togethers.Bison Fan in NW MN wrote:Another tid-bit for you Tod.
A truck driver that hauls my bees to California for almond pollination says he hates going to union docks to load for back-loads to ND or MN. According to him, when he goes to get loaded at a union dock, he has to wait 2-3 X longer because a guy pushing a broom cannot put that down and go over to a forklift or pallet jack and load the truck. He has to call someone else because it is not "his" job. 6-7 guys standing around and none of them can load the truck. He goes to a non-union dock and get loaded right away.
Now I suppose this is a lie in your view. Believe it or don't.

City/county work crew or private contractor work crew? Whoever issued the contract was probably stupid enough to issue it on a time and materials basis. There have been 8 guys working on a 8x8 section of a street around the corner from me for 11 days (Monday will be 12). I'm not a construction guy by any means, but 2 fucking weeks to tear a small square of street out, cut the 5 foot of pipe out, replace it, and fill the hole?
They knock off by about 3 every day, start at about 8 and take an hour lunch.

Typical lib response when he's getting absolutely owned in a thread.Tod wrote:Have about a nice cup of shut the fuck up?AZGrizFan wrote:

City crew....at least I assume due to the hard hards having the Cedar Falls city crest/logo on it....along with the trucks.SDHornet wrote:City/county work crew or private contractor work crew?
