If we want people off of welfare, then we can't make it so a small raise actually hurts the family.

Why is that so hard to comprehend?

Oh, and I lied. My mother died in 1999. I was 33. My point was that you don't know me. Point proven. Please withhold your judgement.

If you hate my politics, fine. But you seem to very literally hate me and my family. I don't get where such hatred could come from on a simple message board.
You keep digging a hole, Tod.

Typical of a person with low expectations and values, you tossed in a lie for no other reason than to "support" your pathetic ideas. It did no such thing...the "point" is on the top of your head.

Your mother dying or not dying is not relevant to your situation, as I said....everyone has their problems. Only losers make excuses.

And, of course, you still miss the real point. You were complaining, and still are, that you didn't like the rules involved in GIVING your daughter OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. You are the idiot child that gets $5 from a stranger, for doing nothing, and complaining that you weren't given $20.

Society doesn't owe your daughter anything. She had a child, wasn't capable of raising it (duh...not a really tough thing to figure out, but some people just don't understand the concept of personal responsibility - and it is no surprise considering where she learned her values and expectations), and you, of course, didn't help enough for whatever reason (excuse).

She was under the income level to get welfare. Then, with a 50-cent raise, she would have been over the income level. Not too hard to understand...except you and she wanted MORE OF OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. :dunce:

Yeah, we didn't give her enough money..."WE" were holding her back.

You are a piece of work. :dunce:
You insist on misunderstanding, or are a moron. Not sure which yet.

How many times have I heard lies and exaggerations from the liberal left to "raise awareness" or "prove a point"? Too f'n many. In Virginia prior to the 2010 elections, a young liberal Democrat threw rocks and broke an incumbent Democrats office windows near Charlottesville. Of course ,the media went crazy over the incivility of the Republican support in area. WHen found out, the young liberal dismissed the act as "trying to raise awareness of the violence inherent in the Tea Party".

Want me to pay your family's burdens and lies to make political points. I tried, really tried, to reach a common ground based upon your posts. Lies, exaggerations, and manipulations - typical of the liberal left. At least you will be among plenty of your like-minded friends when St. Peter passes judgement. Looks like you'll be heading South.
You are just as stupid as Cluck, apparently.

The lost point of this whole argument is this:
People tend to do what they think is best for them based on the information they have
It's no more complicated than that - create 100 test examples 99% will behave identically (period) People do what's best for them based on their available information

Kids that get pregnant look for help any place they can find it
(Even children with Conservative Republican Parents)

The present Ideological battle in this country successfully creates an environment where we are urged to "hate each other" based on the choices we make

I so agree. The definition of hate has gotten way too broad.

It seems that the definition of hate now extends to anyone whose views are different and is spurred on by groups such as the SPLC publishing hate group lists as they try to do what benefits SPLC and re-establish their glory days of the early civil rights movement in the South by including everyone who disagrees with their views as a hate group along with legitimate hate groups on their list.

The SPLC website talks about teaching tolerance by railing against only certain types of intolerance, and extends the definition of tolerance to insisting upon acceptance and not merely stopping at tolerance, thus confusing not only the definition of hate, but that of tolerance as well.

Hate exists on all sides of the political spectrum because of the reasons Chizzang stated in the bolded statement above and is spurred on by ideologues.

Don't worry Tod, you've already established your values and your low expectations...as expressed through your daughter's actions and your inability to see the silliness of your excuses. No further discussion is necessary...you're as blind as one who has faith in their God...are unable to see the mental castle you've built while saying other people are wrong for not "understanding". :dunce:

Hate?

You are certainly correct that the definition of hate has gotten way too broad. 8-)

Of course people do what they think is best for them...no revelation there.

The difference is in the actual choices people make. Some of those choices are easy and short sighted (open my legs for some loser...if I get pregnant, society will take care of me), and some of those choices involve making a decision for what's better for yourself in the long run.

There's usually an easy choice and a tougher one...and the tougher one, the more rewarding one, is the one fewer people take.

It's been said repeatedly that the single most determinant of success is the ability to put off instant gratification. So, while everyone makes decisions they think are best for them, most people base that decision on short term thinking.

You have to have a dream that doesn't involve a trailer park.

The single biggest determinant of success is where you're born and who you're born to. (to steal from D1B's single biggest determinant of religious persuasion.)

But I TOTALLY agree with the instant gratification and choice stuff. :thumb:

I respectfully (see, I can do it  ) disagree.

A person in the backwoods of Nepal can be a success within his surroundings. He might not be as "successful" as Bill Gates, but success is a relative thing. Put two people, even brothers from the same family - rich or poor, in the same boat, and the one who will more often be successful is the one who learns to temper his impulses.

Hey, the gubmint just restructured the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Daddy. Fun times ahead.
