CBO declares ObamaCare a Failure...

Post by SuperHornet »

...in terms of its mission to force itself on the free people of this country. By the 2020s, CBO estimates that 30M Americans will still be uninsured.

Spend all that $$ that we don't have anyway, and can't even fulfill the basic mission?

Stupid....

cnsnews...the right news, right now, might want to go back and read the report again. It's still a massive reduction in the number of insured, it has a ton to do with how the states handle medicaid, and if I'm reading correctly, is also showing a reduction in costs to the federal government.

That being said, the report and the ACA are like reading a JSO post - long and overly complicated so I probably mis-read something there.

Just like in Massachusetts - Where Romney enacted the exact same program...

The Congressional Budget Office report (posted on this thread) shows
A savings of 84 Billion over the original report written two years ago
and the thing that is confusing the guy who wrote this article is this...

"Only a portion of the people who will not be eligible for Medicaid as a result of the Court’s decision will be eligible for subsidies through the exchanges. According to CBO and JCT’s estimates, roughly two-thirds of the people previously estimated to become eligible for Medicaid as a result of the ACA will have income too low to qualify for exchange subsidies, and roughly one-third will have income high enough to be eligible for exchange subsidies. In addition, those who become eligible for subsidies will have to pay a portion of the exchange premium themselves, which will affect their decisions about whether to enroll in the exchanges."

and States choosing NOT to extend Medicaid coverage during the transition stages...

Just like in Massachusetts - Where Romney enacted the exact same program

There would be a lot less uninsured in 2020 if Republican governors actually gave a damn about the poor, and expanded Medicaid eligiblity.

It is funny, SH - you are supposedly a Christian, yet you scoff at programs that do the things that Christ commanded - heal the sick, feed the poor, etc.

It seems to me like you, and other so called Christian Republicans need to go back to Sunday School and figure out what Christ really stood for, or STOP CALLING YOURSELVES CHRISTIANS, but Jesus would be ashamed of the church today.

And no, gay marriage or Chick-fil-A were never mentioned by Christ.

Wow.

Ok, so when Jesus commanded "heal the sick, feed the poor," he was speaking to a group of followers not a nation and its government. I see nothing in the Gospels that commands governments provide basic needs for their constituents (and that followers be taxed to do so). I have no problem agreeing that self-described Christians should heed Jesus' command. However, I do have a problem with trying to make Jesus political--in any context. Jesus was not a Communist, a Socialist, a Democrat, or a Republican. His message was clear, and politics (like Chick-fil-a) were not a part of it.

There would also be a lot less uninsured if politicians in Washington would simply open up state boarders to insurance competition. That would be a much more effective way to make insurance more affordable for the people.

FTR, I also don't take issue with taxes in general, just unreasonable and oppressive taxes.

I think Jesus the man was specific that we as individuals should care for our neighbors. We can make it a metaphor for governmental mandate all we want, but if he intended to include governments I imagine he would have mentioned Caesar there somewhere, as in "render unto"?

So basically, we have a program which John Gruber (the architect of the program), the CBO, and all common sense say will not cut health care costs. It doesn't add a single f'n residency position. All this while primary care is being slowly relegated to nurse practitioners and PAs, and we have an aging boomer generation and a very overweight younger generation who is going to be having many medical problems when they get out of their primes.

Christ didn't say how to do it. Just to do it.

And ASUMountaineer - not totally disagreeing with you - just find it funny that those that profess to be such good Christians that they insist on using the Bible to meddle in other's personal lives when it comes to issues like gay marriage, teaching evolution, etc, but completely ignore the main jist of Christ;s teachings.

No two ways around it - Christ was a peace loving, hippie socialist :thumb:

I find it more sad than funny. Also, if you have to "profess" to be a good Christian, you're probably overcompensating. We all fall short, but I don't have the need to tell others that I don't fall as far. A lot of good people get mired in the dogma vs. the message, and that's where things can go wrong.

As to your last sentence, I'm not so sure. Jesus may meet a very narrow definition of a "socialist," but I do not see where he discusses economic systems in the Gospels. I would say he was a hippie though.

WASHINGTON-- The Franciscan Action Network (FAN), a Catholic faith-based advocacy and civic engagement organization, is strongly criticizing Mitt Romney's recent ads and rhetoric regarding welfare programs and welfare recipients, urging him to spend some time in low-income communities.

"Our Christian tradition teaches that we are to treat the poor with dignity and to prioritize the poor in our policies as a society," the organization said in a press release on Thursday. "At a time when millions are struggling financially, it is degrading to talk about the 'dependency' of people hurting in this economy, as Gov. Romney did recently."

I think I can speak for the conk contingent on here when I state that I have no problem with helping out people who can't help themselves but I have a huge problem helping people who won't help themselves.

Charity and aid should work thusly: from self, from family, from church, from organized charity, from community, finally from government- all with accountability. In most cases it works in the exact opposite order with zero accountability. That's what most of us have a huge problem with.

I agree with this but would add that I also don't mind providing a limited safety net for those who can help themselves but have had a setback or are just trying to get started. The safety net shouldn't just be cash but could include job training, childcare, etc. The caveat being that the safety net should have a time and dollar limit on it.

EBT is now accepted at fast food restaurants. So, a family of four goes to Rally Burger and spends $23-$25....how many meals could a family get with that $$ instead of one crappy fast food meal? 3? 4?

A dozen eggs: $1.89
Loaf of bread: $3.00
Pound of bacon: $4.59
Gallon of milk: $2.19
Package of lunchmeat: $2.49
Package of cheese: $2.99
Bag of Cheetos: $1.49
Bulk spaghetti: $1.99
Garlic bread: $.99
Spaghetti sauce: $2.99

Total: $24.61. If I go buy that instead of one crappy fast-food meal, I could feed a family of four at least TWO breakfasts, TWO lunches and a dinner.

THIS is what we're supporting with these entitlement programs. Do those on food stamps now have a god-given right to have fast food?
