Z, if you read Jon's link, your 47% number who "don't pay taxes" is bunk. You weren't talking about YOUR bracket either. :coffee:

Chizz, chicken or the egg. We have decided through the political process to provide X amount of government services which cost money. The current tax code does not provide enough revenue to pay for X.
Then it's time to change the "political process". :coffee:

I just scratch my head at the gambit the democrats- and Obama in particular, with help from his lapdog media- have played on the electorate, who by and large are too stupid to know better and too ignorant to care.

First of all, federal taxes aren't paid on wealth except in the case of the inheritance tax. So, the whole line about "millionaires and billionaires" is a crock of **** becuase the tax code is based on quarterly and annual income, not wealth.

Secondly, I find it infuriating to hear how I'm not "paying my fair share" when 46% of the population of majority age pays no federal tax at all. Talk about not paying one's fair share...

Third, even though I didn't build my business according to Obama (I have worked my ass off for 28 years to build a clientele & network of referral sources, perfect a system of processing and closing deals, and finally a network of reliable wholesale lenders while I never drew a dime in salary), I pay more in income taxes than my wife- who has a pretty good job in admin for the Seminole County School District- makes in a year, so she is in fact working entirely for the federal government. That doesn't include the payroll tax I pay on my employees either. There is something fundamentally wrong with that.

There is one thing that can put all this to rest immediately: http://www.fairtax.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I fear these five words will ultimately injure our republic in a way that can't be cured... "don't pay their fair share."

As Ivytalk so eloquently put it, this is about the "makers vs. the takers."
Other benefits of the fair tax: those with illegal sources of income, and thus are currently not taxed on a federal level, now pay in like everyone else; no paperwork for tax payers.

On the second point, I bet you pay close the $2,000 a year just to compile your personal income tax, BB. The 1040 form that even moderately prosperous people must prepare is burdensome and intrusive, and it gets even worse as your income increases.

But it's the intrusiveness of the 1040 form that is most irksome. Imagine if you went back in history, and caught the revolutionaries just as they were boarding the boat to toss the tea overboard. Imagine if you showed them a modern 1040 form and told them, hey, this the form that the government you guys are about to form will require of the citizens in 2012.

They would take one look at the form and say (before going home), "F*** it. Let him tax the tea already."

Fairtax!

(But this would mean that congress couldn't use the tax code to dole out goodies to its constituents).

We need to talk about how to raise revenue for the federal government more often. :kisswink:

Joltin' Joe makes a great point about the shadow income that's not taxed.

As a SFR loan originator who has worked in Central FL for now 26 years I have seen more than my share of people who work in the restaurant/bar, service, lawn care, and construction/building maintenance industries who come to me wanting a mortgage, have excellent credit, plenty of cash saved, excellent cash flow in their bank statements, but report no income because their income is predominently cash. They are always shocked when I tell them they don't qualify because they don't report their income. The Fair Tax will put these cheaters on equal footing with the rest of us.

Both of you are wrong. God created all animals first. No evolution. He created animals, not eggs. THerefore, in conclusion, in summation, The Chicken came first. :coffee:
