Romney is a silver spooner.

The whole point of the tax return hiding is that they know his finances will piss off those who pay almost all the taxes in this country, what is left of the middle class. He does not connect, nor understand, and the more he tries the more alien he comes off as.

And you can lump the media elites right in there too. They all live in a bubble.

But I agree with Wedge in that Romney has shown very little in the way of actual ideas. You can disagree with Obama's ideas or recognize that they're mostly air but at least he's proposing things.

Nobody wants to genuinely pay more taxes except Warren Buffett including all the folks on here and elsewhere who want everyone to pay a fair share. If Romney isn't breaking any laws, is operating under loopholes that are legally available to him and approved by the IRS what's the big deal? He's a millionaire, just like most of our congress and our incumbent president. If he's worth $500 million does that make him more or less in touch than our Harvard educated multimillionaire President worth $50 million (a guess)? Sure, Romney had to spit out a silver spoon before he could take his first bottle as a baby, but him having a leg up on most people really isn't his fault. Personally, I don't really care how much money he has and only would have a genuine interest if he somehow broke some laws acquiring it or paying taxes on it. :twocents:

I have more concern about incumbent congressmen/women who voted and traded on insider information - regardless of party affiliation.

And Buffett is full of shit too. If that were the case, he wouldn't be fighting his $1,000,000,000 tax bill for NetJets.

He's just like everyone else, don't want to pay any more taxes than humanly possible.

I agree that Romney has shown very little in the way of actual ideas but he does have a track record of actual success that he should be running on. Comparing Romney 12 to Obama 08 is interesting:

Ideas:
Obama - lots of very generic, touchy feely concepts that make everyone feel good but nothing specific enough to create dissension in the ranks.
Romney - too much focus on who he isn't rather who he is and what he would do.

Experience:
Obama - community organizer, state Senator, US Senator. Supervisory experience - handful of staff members (maybe a couple of handfuls), no experience supervising multiple departments, delegating to directors, etc. (I had more management & leadership experience when I was 30 than Obama did when he was elected POTUS).
Romney - started & ran Bain Capital, ran the Salt Lake Olympic Games, Governor of Mass. Supervisory experience - significant, dealt with directors, departments, etc. and has a track record of success.

Now Obama 12 has more experience than Obama 08. He's stubbed his toes a number of times and I hope he's learned from those mistakes but his track record in the White House isn't that good.

Who is more likely to succeed?
- The guy with limited experience and some screw-ups in his recent past but the ability to articulate a vision for the future, or
- The guy with significant experience and a history of success but who is not as charismatic as his opponent.
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

That's all true if you don't think the power elite have rigged the entire system including the tax codes at the expense of the general economy.

Our Congress is largely composed of power elite. You may be totally right on the system being rigged, but these guys aren't fools and won't shoot themselves in their collective feet. It's nice to give platitudes on how the rich are fleecing America and pander to the middle class, but it's only got some legs if you aren't one of the rich voting to keep yourself that way.

Uni88 - I wouldn't tout Mitt's Olympic "success", since it was largely due to a $1.3 BILLION handout from the Federal Government he begged for to save the games from financial ruin.

That is more than double what the much larger Atlanta games got, which got hammered for using so much Federal money.

I have an idea that might staisfy the idiots asking for Romney's tax returns...anyone running for public office must not make more money than you.

And, when people do run for office, you must vote for the person whose income is closest to yours.

When it comes down to it...that is all this distraction is about...petty jealousy.

Obama has cut corners in nearly everything he has done...ignoring publicly elected representatives in Congress...allowing his tax cheating friends to hold offices...hiding his transcripts...he is a conniving, script reading megalomaniac who has run on a platform of fear and division...but he's your conniving, script reading megalomaniac churning up your fears and divisions, so it's cool. :dunce:

Just another arrow in the wealth envy quiver....

I just scratch my head at the gambit the democrats- and Obama in particular, with help from his lapdog media- have played on the electorate, who by and large are too stupid to know better and too ignorant to care.

First of all, federal taxes aren't paid on wealth except in the case of the inheritance tax. So, the whole line about "millionaires and billionaires" is a crock of shit becuase the tax code is based on quarterly and annual income, not wealth.

Secondly, I find it infuriating to hear how I'm not "paying my fair share" when 46% of the population of majority age pays no federal tax at all. Talk about not paying one's fair share...

Third, even though I didn't build my business according to Obama (I have worked my ass off for 28 years to build a clientele & network of referral sources, perfect a system of processing and closing deals, and finally a network of reliable wholesale lenders while I never drew a dime in salary), I pay more in income taxes than my wife- who has a pretty good job in admin for the Seminole County School District- makes in a year, so she is in fact working entirely for the federal government. That doesn't include the payroll tax I pay on my employees either. There is something fundamentally wrong with that.

There is one thing that can put all this to rest immediately: http://www.fairtax.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I fear these five words will ultimately injure our republic in a way that can't be cured... "don't pay their fair share."

As Ivytalk so eloquently put it, this is about the "makers vs. the takers."
