Denouncing religion because of what it Isn't..?

Keep in mind that religion is not a system of logical observation and classification to deduce truth.
Rather, religion is a mindset and belief filter that affects how one views the world.

There should be a book or set of clauses on "What not to expect" in a religious argument...
Since the real intent of any religions argument is to demonstrate that religion is not logically sound or scientifically defensible. This is true, but it is not a death knell for religion, nor does it signal the end of faith for those who choose to "believe" whatever Religion they are defending. There are a few VALID things in this world that are not subject to logic or scientific inquiry (beauty, Art, philosophy, etc.) Religion belongs to this category.

In summary:
Religion is not Science
Religion is not logical
Nor observable or defensible with science or logic

If you're looking for someone to defend Religion they can only do so in the same way one might defend Art

:coffee:
Except that art hasn't been a driving force behind the oppression of others. So yeah, defending art is just like defending religion.

That's exactly my point... (thank you)
If you're going to argue about religion talk about what it "IS" Not about what it's not
Yes we all know Religion isn't science and doesn't stand up to scientific inquiry (Check)
Yes we know religion is not logical and does not stand up to logical debate (check)

So the argument might better be focused on what it IS presently

What is Religion today..?
What are it's goals..?
What are it's PRESENT flaws..?

That would be interesting to debate - instead of:
Science vs. Religion (over and over and over)
Logic vs. Religion (over and over)

What is a religious goal? Try taking over the world since every religion thinks it's the right one.

And religion today is still brainwashing. People shouldn't have to rely on some other being/thing in order to get to a better place in the afterlife. The interpretations can go so awry that people kill based on one sentence in the bible, torah, koran, vedas, etc. :dunce:

IMO, if you are discussing religion, you have to throw logic and science out the door. Religion is faith based. There is no room for logic or science in religion. :coffee:

Wrong again DeNunzio. This thread is the about the veracity of the christian message as presented by the bible and understood by christians. This is not science or logic, but theology and religious epistimology.

Your "non" beliefs and your relentless barrage posting on here of trying to force others to think the same way you do has caused all of us to suffer on here. So fuck you, you fat hypocritical POS.

Then what?
That is why The idea of Religions policing themselves has not worked very well...
The ability to hide behind ancient "protected" dogma or Sacred Hatred as I like to call it - it's untouchable hate

So ultimately each society - each national cultural generation has to enforce it's Religions
This is why Black people can NOW go to Heaven in the Mormon church
The national cultural pressure exerted by relatively enlightened humans in the 70's

This is why The Old Testament is largely ignored now by modern American Christians
They Cherry pick from it - as necessary - but the insanity of it in general has forced them away from that particular book (or group of books actually)

So there's your answer to "Then what"
Each Religion has to awaken internally and within it's cultural and national structure and "grow" to meet common sense
or the removal of brutalities or deceit within the dogma

Religious goal for me? Trying to receive God's grace.

Almost anything that we encounter during our lives could be considered "brainwashing". Anything.
