Rasmussen Poll: Romney up by 5 points

Post by CitadelGrad »

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... cking_poll

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Mitt Romney attracting 49% of the vote, while President Obama earns support from 44%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

The numbers are similar to the 49% to 43% advantage Romney enjoys on the question of who is trusted more to handle the economy.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

#1 reason for the Obama drop & Romney surge:

"If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

No matter that most of the mainsteam media ignored it for several days, then when they could no longer as it was all over FOX, talk radio and had gone totally viral, they tried to spin it, like KYJelly has done, they can't change the fact that this remark is probably more damaging than "I Actually Did Vote for the $87 Billion, Before I voted Against It". Obama went off teleprompter and his true anti business ideology slipped out, just like it did with the "spread the wealth around" comment.

electoral-vote.com shows Obama with a comfortable lead in delegates. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Some of the states that e-v has for Obama are likely to switch to Romney (and probably back and forth several times) before it's all over.

In spite of Rasmussen's reputation of being an accurate pollster, I still see Obama winning.

"......He's leading President Barack Obama in Rasmussen's daily tracking poll by his biggest margin in more than a month.
Romney leads Obama, 49 percent to 44 percent, in the general election matchup. That nearly mirrors the result on who voters say they trust more to handle the economy. Romney leads there 49-43.

Just last Saturday, though, the two candidates were tied at 46 percent apiece. Rasmussen notes that "as with any such change in the race, it remains to be seen whether it marks a lasting shift or is merely statistical noise."

But economic news doesn't look like it's going to improve much in the short-term. Friday's GDP report beat expectations but also showed extremely sluggish growth overall. Consumer confidence, meanwhile, remained at its low point for the year.

Since it's always fun to compare: On this day in 2008, Obama led Republican nominee John McCain by 5 points — 49 to 44 percent — in Rasmussen's daily tracking. "

One they're including polls that don't limit it to LIKELY voters.
Two a lot of their polls aren't within the last few days. As noted in the Rasmussen, just last Sunday they had it 46-46. Obama's huge gaffe is hurting him.

Maybe. I don't put much stock in it. Both candidates are likely to say stupid things before November. It will still come down to the economy and maybe Romney's choice of VP. Romney has a shot, but if I had to bet right now, I'd put my money on Obama.

I don't see how Mutt gets to 270 in the electoral college. Support for him is largely ephemeral and he won't inspire a huge turnout.

This probably has SOMETHING to do with it, but I'm not so sure about #1. I would posit that Obama's almost nonexistent campaign (other than fundraising, that is) that consisted of nothing but negative ads until this week got people angry, too. I'm sure his poll watchers saw that people were miffed at his attack ads, so he's posting positive stuff now.

This. National composite polls are meaningless. It's the electoral college, which is state by state. Polls in NC, FL, OH, PA, WI, VA, and MO are much more meaningful.

Over sampling of Donks by 9% in Ohio, 8% in Florida, and 6% in Pennsylvania. :suspicious:

I think the important part of the poll is this statement:

"If today were November 6, President Barack Obama would sweep the key swing states of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania and - if history is any guide - into a second term in the Oval Office," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Obviously, today is not November 6. Lets see what happens after the conventions, after Romney picks a VP, after both candidates start heavily running ads in those states and of course what happens with the economy over the next three months.

Is this thread serious? It just came out what 2 days ago that Obama is pulling away in FL & OH. I think he's close to a double digit lead in PA now, which despite the GOP's best efforts & voter ID changes, has no shot in hell going red for Romney.

I don't like Obama, but as of today, Romney has no chance. None.

I agree that Romney is going to have a tough time getting to 270. But read Baldy's post above. Local talk radio was discussing this on the way home from work yesterday. They were talking about the Florida numbers in that poll. They were saying that the poll has the Ds +9 but in 2008 the Ds were +3 in the actual election and in 2010 the Ds were even with the Rs. If that is all correct the Florida poll is garbage.

This election is going to be about turn out in the swing states. Which party's voters are the most motivated?

Exactly! You have fallen into their trap. Hence the over sampling of the Donks.
