10th Season of Coastal Carolina Football

This year is our 10th season. Yes, the tiny little Chickens from Conway are 10 yrs old. Our first game was against Newberry in 2003 and we won. I remember being there, my sophmore year, on the "hill". The excitement was incredible. We went 6-5 that season. Our 2nd Season we went 10-1 and were conference champs. The next seasons ended, 9-2 and 9-3. 2005 is the season with our famous "Super Safety" play that caused us to lose to CSU in overtime and to share the Conference Championship. 2007-2009 were rebuilding years, with us 5-6, 6-6- and 5-6 respectively. In 2010 we came back, 6-6 overall, 5-1 in the Big South to win the conference. 2011 brought us to 7-4. Our overall record is 63–39–0.

In 2006, we made school history when the team received its first FCS playoff berth, also the first playoff berth for the Big South Conference, losing to Appalachian State (who won the FCS that year.) In 2010 Coastal went to the playoffs for the second time after winning the Big South Championship (a three way tie with Liberty and Stony Brook) and received the Big South's first ever automatic playoff bid.

Now for some highlights:

2005: The Super Safety when receiver Jerome Simpson was supposed to take a safety and instead ran out of bounds at the 4-yard line with 1.5 seconds left, setting up CSU's tying TD. I was at this game. I couldn't believe that a receiver would go out of bounds instead of running into the endzone.
