Liberty Announces FBS Games
Liberty will face FBS foes of increasingly difficult caliber in the next few years. Starting with Kent State next year (easy Liberty win, IMO), the Flames follow that up with West Virginia in 2015 and VA Tech in 2016, Liberty's first FBS foe from Virginia. Liberty travels to Wake Forest this year. Normally, if you're looking at ACC foes, Wake and Duke are the teams to go after if you want a cheap FBS win, but Wake hit a HUGE rebound last year. Liberty should have snagged Duke. With the given FBS schedule, I see a DEFINITE win over Kent State, a POSSIBLE win over West Virginia (leaning toward a loss, though), and a DEFINITE loss to VA Tech.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Liberty is going to get blown out in all these games.

Not sure why you'd say that about the Kent State game. Their last two MAC games were a 1-point loss at Toledo and a win at Ball State.

Liberty is not beating WVU. It is very unlikley that they will beat Kent State. They still have 23 more scholarship players, and virtually all of them are better than the players at Liberty. Also Turner Gill is a crappy coach.

The Golden Flashes are going to take the Flames, hands down. Duke isn't a powerhouse or a decent football team so I wouldn't brag about that one.
Now, what makes you think LIberty will beat WVU? You guys will get spanked. I know you shouldn't say never, however this is a certainity.

When WVU was in the Big East, they were a pushover. Now they are in the Big 12. Much different story.Brock Landers wrote:SuperHornet wrote:Starting with Kent State next year (easy Liberty win, IMO),![]()

Liberty better worry about beating Montana.SuperHornet wrote:Liberty will face FBS foes of increasingly difficult caliber in the next few years. Re: Liberty Announces FBS Games
Kent State is a decent enough FBS team that it would take a really good FCS squad to take them out with certainty. I fully expect the Golden Flashes to beat Towson this year.

Didn't Kent State (maybe it was Toledo) crush a UNH team that made the playoffs a couple years ago by about 30?
Liberty can't win the big south...how the fuck are they going to beat a decent FBS team?
Ball State is hardly a good team. The year you beat them their only wins came against teams with less wins than they ahd.

This is a curious yardstick. How national champions only beat teams with fewer wins than they had? I imagine there have been quite a few in both FBS and FCS.clenz wrote: The year you beat them their only wins came against teams with less wins than they ahd.

When you finish the year with 4 wins it is a yard stick......Mike Johnson wrote:This is a curious yardstick. How national champions only beat teams with fewer wins than they had? That year Ball State beat
2 win FCS SEMO (wins versus NAIA Quincy who was winless and 6 win Murray State)
3 win Central Michigan (wins vs 6 win FCS Hampton, 2 win Eastern Michigan and 6 win Western Michigan - didn't make bowl)
1 win Akron (win vs 2 win Buffalo)
2 win Buffalo ( wins vs 5 win FCS Rhode Island and 2 Bowling Green)
I went and started really tracking who beat who and what not - I did this that year as well as Liberty fans were busting a nut over the victory - and it really is just a big circle of really shitty teams beating each other.

Re: Liberty Announces FBS Games
I'm not getting the level of respect I see here for Kent State. No, it's not an easy game. Kent State hasn't lost to a I-AA/FCS team for a while. But Kent State is, by any objective standard, a very bad FBS program.
Part of it depends on how good Liberty is when they play. But if you're going to play a FBS program and have a decent chance to win if you have a good FCS team, Kent State is a pretty good choice.

Re: Liberty Announces FBS Games
All you really need to do to accomplish the same thing is consult a power rating system such as Sagarin's. A power rating system like that takes all of that into account. It looks at all the scores and results on who beat who and how much in a manner that is much more comprehensive than any of us could achieve doing stuff like that. When you finish the year with 4 wins it is a yard stick......

I mean, sometimes we feel like we have to do it because there is this bias against power rating systems. It's "the computers." But it's not really the computers. The computers just allow for doing the calculations. It's really the models designed by people to take all that stuff into account.
And in 2010 50 FCS teams finished rated ahead of Ball State in the Sagarin Ratings.
Of course in 2011 22 FCS teams finished rated ahead of Kent State. So it's not like an impossible task.
